POSITION SUMMARY:

Be part of our mission to provide scalable, advanced nuclear technology to the production of electricity, heat, and water to improve the quality of life for people around the world. The engineer in this position will develop the design of and then provide manufacturing support for components of the NuScale Power Module. The near-term design work will finalize the integrated and modular system reactor vessel, reactor internals, core support structures, containment vessel, pipes, valves, supports, and control rod drives that have been carefully designed to support all phases of the NuScale Power Module lifecycle.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Generate technical requirements for the components of the NuScale Power Module with direction provided by senior engineers.

  • Prepare and review engineering specifications, CAD models, drawings, and other documentation that communicate the design and technical aspects of components, systems, and structures associated with the reactor coolant system and nuclear steam supply system with direction provided by senior engineers.

  • Work on moderately complex tasks in multiple and diverse areas.

  • Compile functional and design for lifecycle requirements into component and assembly design with consideration for system interfaces, manufacturability, serviceability, and in-service inspection with direction provided by senior engineers.

  • Develop design parameters associated with the reactor pressure vessel, pressurizer, steam generator, reactor vessel internals, containment pressure vessel, main steam and feedwater piping, component supports, valves, and control rod drive mechanisms with direction provided by senior engineers.

  • Perform engineering calculations consistent with the requirements defined in the ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code, Section III and the ASME B31.1 Power Piping Code with direction provided by senior engineers.

  • Perform other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM SKILLS, QUALIFICATIONS AND ABILITIES:

  • Education/Certification: A minimum of a B.S. degree in Mechanical, Nuclear or Civil Engineering from a four year accredited college or university.

  • Experience:

  • Demonstrated understanding of engineering concepts, principles, and theories is required.

  • Strong technical writing skills. Good communication, computer, presentation, and interpersonal skills are required.

  • Organization skills and ability to manage complex tasks are required.

  • Familiarity with CAD modeling tools and product lifecycle management (PLM) software is desired.

  • Licensure: An EIT license is desirable.

  • Industry Requirements:
    Eligible to work under Department of Energy 10 CFR Part 810.

  • Quality Assurance: Demonstrated understanding and implementation of quality assurance regulations, standards and guidelines of 10 CFR 50 Appendix B, 10 CFR 21, and NQA-1 is preferred.

Responsible for developing the necessary qualified suppliers, managing the NuScale power module manufacturing and delivery on schedule and on budget, and ensuring a sustainable supply chain to meet future customer demand. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: * Develops and defines a set of requirements at a system, component or commodity level that are used to guide decisions during the supply chain development process to prepare for manufacturing. * Engages current and prospective suppliers to establish an understanding of manufacturing capabilities and ensures validation of these as required. * Formulates strategies for developing large pressure vessel, safety related valve and control rod drive mechanism manufacturing plans addressing established design requirements. * Leads the activities of a multi-disciplinary team (Quality, Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering and Procurement) to establish the NuScale power module supply chain, oversee fabrication, and delivery to the installation site. * Directly manages a team of manufacturing engineers. * Establishes the fabrication costs and schedule associated with the NuScale power module and its appurtenances at the component, system, or commodity level. * Provides product integration planning and logistics. * Establishes a supply chain and manufacturing risk register for the NuScale power module and manages the mitigation of the risks. * Manages development and delivery of services and equipment leading to a capable supply chain. * Primary responsibility for product supplier relationship management. * Establishes manufacturing agreements for NuScale power module components/equipment ensuring performance on cost, schedule, and quality. * Ensures activities related to the realization of an OEM product are executed including design for manufacturing, product development testing, configuration management, and component qualification. * Support the design effort to ensure final designs are manufacturable. * Reports status of supply chain development and fabrication to management and stakeholders. * Performs other duties as assigned.
