We are currently seeking a Mechanic to join our growing team!

Position Overview:

Perform routine maintenance and a variety of repairs on company vehicles crucial to the safe operation of the fleet. Schedule and ensure that all safety related repairs and driver requested repairs are performed daily. Protect the health and welfare of all employees by enforcing best fleet safety practices. Keep tools, equipment and shop area clean, organized and in good working condition. Properly complete and submit company forms (work orders, fleet records, purchases etc.) Must be willing to work beyond normal work hours. Must be available for night time and weekend work. Understand and comply with all DOT regulations and applicable laws. Complete other tasks as assigned by management.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Diagnoses issues based on experience, analysis, and testing

  • Performs routine service inspections or tests and completes standard maintenance jobs

  • Repairs gasoline and diesel-driven vehicles and motorized equipment

  • Maintains cleanliness of vehicles while performing service or repairs

  • Maintains leading-edge knowledge of commercial vehicle diagnosis technology, digital manuals, and reference materials

  • Understand and comply with all DOT regulations and applicable laws

Minimum Qualifications and Experience:

  • High school diploma or GED required

  • Post-secondary automotive training required

  • ASE certification (or is willing to obtain certification)

  • Two years relevant experience required

  • Clean driving record

  • Can drive both automatic and standard-transmission vehicles

  • CDL preferred

  • Professional set of tools

Successful completion of a pre-employment background and substance screening process including, but not limited to, employment verifications, criminal search and Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) search as well continued verifications throughout employment to ensure that all records meet company policy standards.

OPPORTUNITY: The Mechanic will utilize well developed skills to maintain equipment necessary to provide daily and long term support for stevedoring activities. ESSENTIAL DUTIES * Troubleshoot, diagnose, and repair all types of stevedoring equipment; * Primary contact for diagnosing problems with forklifts; Yard Hustler, Pickups and Container Handler; * Perform preventive maintenance on stevedoring equipment; plug in and check fluid levels for forklift etc. daily; * Complete written inspection report, work order, and parts list. Must seek repair authorization and approval for parts that are not in parts inventory; * Complete purchase order, and contact vendor; * Deliver and position equipment for various stevedoring activities, remain on site to perform emergency repairs during vessel/terminal operations; * Experience and knowledge of diesel, gasoline, battery-powered and propane engines; as well as industrial electricity and hydraulic systems; * Should hold and maintain current commercial drivers license w/hazmat endorsements; * Complete assigned tasks with minimal supervision; * Basic written communication skills required for completion of daily reports. * High School Diploma or equivalent. * A minimum of 5-7 years in utility and maintenance experience. * Position requires the ability to secure and maintain a TWIC issued by Homeland Security Ports America is an Equal Opportunity Employer encouraging diversity in the workplace.
