The City of Virginia Beach is hiring a Mechanic Technician II ($47,565.90 - $73,727.15) to perform skilled mechanical work in the repair and maintenance of a variety of vehicles and machinery utilized by City operations in our Light Duty Shop.
Representative work duties include but are not limited to:
- Perform preventive maintenance tasks such as oil changes, lubrication, battery checks and safety checks as well as State Inspections as licensed/capable.
- Performs repairs such as minor tune-ups, replacing water pumps, radiators, brake air compressors, hydraulic lines and hoses, and brake shoes.
- Assist in more complex repairs such as servicing heater and air conditioning systems, and differential and transmission repairs.
- Transports equipment to repair facilities for specialized service or repair.
- May require employee to perform work outside in any and all-weather conditions.
- Must be capable of responding to occasional after-hours service callouts.
- This position is designated Alpha I and the incumbent will be required to work in emergency events and inclement weather.
This position requires the incumbent obtain a valid 609 Refrigerant Recovery Certification within the first year of employment (the probationary period).
Employees may be eligible to receive up to $3,500 annually in stipends for certifications and licensure related to the position.
Annual supplemental pay for stipends is paid across 26 pay periods and include:
- Up to $2,500 annually for Mechanics that maintain Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) Certifications.
- A $1,000 annual stipend for Mechanics that maintain a Virginia State Inspector's License.
All supplemental pay is included in the hourly rate when compensated for overtime hours worked during a pay period.
