Position Purpose
Provides senior level mechanical experience in the installation, repair, and maintenance of stationary plant equipment, helicopters and heavy automotive equipment.
Essential Functions
1.Diagnosis equipment failures to determine cause and ensure appropriate repair by the mechanics.
2.Inspects and tests completed work to ensure repairs were performed according to standards.
3.Orders parts needed for repairs, maintains records of purchases and installations according to established
procedures.
4.Demonstrates proper work methods. and safety procedures to other mechanics and helpers to ensure that work is performed in a proper and safe manner and to assist with complex repairs.
Performs Depending on Location:
1.Plant Mechanics perform preventive maintenance and checks plant facilities and equipment, including city vehicles, to ensure safe operational condition of all vehicles. Inspect and executes repair, replacement, fabrication, modification, and installation of various types of plant equipment, including pumps, valves, chemical handling equipment, and all other related equipment in a timely manner to allow continuous operation of plant facilities when equipment malfunctions occur. Weld and fabricate vault lids, ladders, vents, gates and fences, pour concrete, perform minor carpentry work, install overhead doors, repair reservoir and maintains flood gates.
2.Helicopter Mechanics perform preventive maintenance and repair to ensure that helicopter is air worthy. Overhaul and reassemble helicopter structures and engines. Adjust and repairs electrical wiring systems, accessories, pneumatic and hydraulic systems. Consult manufacturers manuals for specifications to determine whether to repair or replace parts to correct malfunctions.
3.Maintenance Mechanics perform major and minor repairs on a variety of machinery and mechanical equipment, including air conditioning, heating and ventilation equipment, in compliance with operation manuals and manufacturer's specifications to ensure equipment operates properly. Change belts, oil, filters, greases bearings, clean, lubricates or replaces parts on various mechanical and electrical equipment. Troubleshoot mechanical and electrical equipment. Perform carpentry, plumbing, and welding activities.
4.Heavy Equipment Mechanics perform repairs and maintains large, complex automotive equipment, powered by gasoline, diesel, or alternative fuel. Maintain stock of tools, supplies and parts by ordering stock as needed and stocking parts room to ensure that supplies and parts are available.
5.Performs other duties as assigned.
Working Conditions & Hazards:
Work is performed in a shop or field conditions.
Subject to fumes, noise, drafts, dirt, grease, and solvents.
Frequently works in cramped position.
Requires standing, carrying dragging, walking, stooping, lifting, bending, and climbing.
Exposed to inclement weather.
Some positions exposed to hazardous chemicals such as chlorine, fluorine, and ammonia.
Work performed under normal office conditions.

Dallas WaterUtilities-SDM, Floodway Operations: Experience overhauling and maintaining the following equipment: pumps (2'' through 60"), trash racks, conveyors, sluice gates, valves, gears, small engines and overhead cranes; welding skills and experience operating motorized tools preferred.
Dallas WaterUtilities-SDM, Neighborhood Services: Experience with diagnosing and repair of various equipment such as pumps, valves, gearboxes,pipefittings, small engines and generators, heavy equipment like vacuum trucks, and/orflusherspreferred.
Dallas Water Utilities Central Wastewater Treatment: Availability to work 24 hours call out is a requirement and ability to operate heavy equipment is a plus.
Dallas Water Utilities-Purification-Elm-Fork:This position is located at the water production plant in Carrollton and performs scheduled and unscheduled maintenance on equipment to produce drinking water. Experience overhauling and maintaining the following equipment: pumps (2" through 30"), trash racks, conveyors, sluice gates, valves, gears, small engines, and overhead cranes; welding skills and experience operating motorized tools preferred. The salary listed on this job posting is the starting salary range; amount offered will depend upon qualifications.
For evaluation purposes, acceptable qualifying experience for all positions must have been in a paid capacity unless noted otherwise in the minimum qualifications for the posted position.
Additionally, 30+ hours per week will be counted as full-time employment and will receive full credit for the amount of time employed. A minimum of 15 through 29 work hours per week will be counted as part-time employment and will receive half credit for the amount of time employed.
