PURPOSE OF YOUR JOB DESCRIPTION:

The primary purpose of your job is under the supervision of the ES Director to perform maintenance service and repairs in the areas of plumbing, carpentry, painting, plastering, machine servicing and/or vehicle servicing. Additional, maintains hospital grounds and parking lots. This will done in accordance with current applicable Federal, State and local standards, guidelines and regulations, and established policies and procedures as may be directed by the Administrator, to assure that the highest degree of quality care and safety can be maintained.

DELEGATION OF AUTHORITY:

As a Mechanic, you are delegated the authority, responsibility and accountability necessary for carrying out your assigned duties.

JOB FUNCTIONS:

PERFORMANCE REQUIREMENT / DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Performs maintenance, preventative maintenance and basic repairs to equipment and systems as necessary to include plumbing, mechanical, and carpentry.

Follows through on maintenance, preventative maintenance and basic repairs so that work orders are completed on a timely basis.

Checks daily the work order system and completes HIGH priority work orders ASAP.

Assists in assembling/installing new equipment and completing renovation as directed.

Performs snow removal as necessary, including plowing, shoveling, sanding and salting during the winter months to ensure all pathways are safe for patients, visitors, employees and the public.

Uses maintenance power tools such as saws, plumbing, electrical test equipment, etc.

Performs a variety of tasks involving carpentry, plumbing, and mechanical systems.

Removes debris from the hospital grounds by a variety of means.

Regularly inspects life safety equipment and keeps fire pathways clear.

Repairs, patches and refinishes paint or vinyl covered surfaces on the interior and/or exterior of the building as directed.

Reports all safety incidents, accidents, hazardous conditions, safety risks; and takes appropriate action to correct any safety or environmental hazards.

Utilizes Maintenance Department supplies and equipment effectively and efficiently.

Ensures proper security for equipment and supplies.

Complies with hospital/ departmental policies, procedures, regulations and standards as related to job.

Demonstrates hospital's stated mission and values of teamwork, respect and communication with co-workers, patients, families and visitors.

Actively and appropriately participates in problem identification and resolution, both intra- and inter-departmentally.

Meets departmental customer service standards and strives to enhance the level of customer service provided.

Performs various other duties as assigned.

Maintains a clean, organized workshop and work area.

Maintains order and reports when parts/stock supplies are running low.

Participates in on-call rotation.

EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:

  • Required: High School diploma or GED equivalent.

  • Preferred: On the job training or apprenticeship program in a related field.

LICENSURE/CERTIFICATIONS/REGISTRATIONS

  • Required: Valid Driver's license.

EXPERIENCE:

  • Minimum 3-5 years experience in facility maintenance with a preference in healthcare. Must have a strong mechanical background, work ethic and be very safety minded.

  • Preferred:

Ability to work independently and have strong communication and computer skills.

PERFORMANCE REQUIREMENT / DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Helps maintain inventory of technical supplies. Performs and documents daily and periodic maintenance. Performs calibrations when necessary. Troubleshoots and document instrument problems. Use "Hot lines" and call in service when necessary. Willingness to help others with their assigned duties when needed. Flexibility to changes, duties, call, shifts when emergency situations arise. Maintains good working relations with areas of service physicians, outside facilities, and the general public. Maintains a satisfactory attendance record. Works well independently. Satisfactory availability and response when on call. Complies with department and hospital policy and procedure in accordance with State and Federal regulation. Complies with OSHA standards and universal precautions. Performs all duties when requested to assist the manager, pathologist, and CEO. Assists in training and guiding new staff technologists.
