State certification as bus mechanic
Valid Alabama Driver's License.
Commercial Driver's License.

Reports To: Transportation Supervisor
Job Goal: To perform skilled work in repairing and maintaining various types of gasoline and diesel powered vehicles.
Performance Responsibilities:
Diagnoses failures and problems in various vehicle units such as transmissions, engines, electrical systems, drive trains, exhaust systems, etc. Recommends appropriate replacement and repair of damaged units.
Performs major overhaul and repair work on various school vehicles, (primarily school buses) including replacement and repair of clutches, brakes, cylinder linings, connecting rods, bearings, crankshafts, heads, etc.
Adjust carburetors and performs complete engine tune-ups, resets and adjust valves, injectors pumps, fuel filters and lines.
Repairs and replaces starters, distributor relays, lights and switches, air compressors and alternators.
Repairs and install axles, radiators, hoses, fuel, water pumps and tanks.
When assigned, oversees work of small crew of journey men mechanics and/or helpers. Inspects finished work to insure that it meets manufacturer specifications or complies with departmental policy and procedures. May be required to travel to scene of broken down vehicles and perform roadside repairs.
Complies with safety requirements. Keeps records of time, materials, parts, and work performed in accordance with department policy.
Participates in on-the-job and other formal and informal training and orientation programs.
Performs other related duties as assigned.
Maintain equipment in the area.
Establishes and maintains good public relations with administrators, bus drivers and general public.
Operates two-way radio equipment (clarity of speech desired).
Aids in accident investigation.

Salary Range: From/To Per Salary Schedule Dependent on degree and public school experience Special programs as per individual budget
