Job Title: Mechanic Intermediate

FLSA Status: Non-Exempt


Provide preventive maintenance and repairs on AMR vehicles assigned. This is a second level position requires 2 years on the job experience as an automotive or truck mechanic experience

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Performs Front Line Mechanic inspections and preventive maintenance on both diesel and gasoline vehicles as per policies and procedures. Performs mechanical and electrical repairs as per policies and procedures.

    Responds to vehicle breakdowns in the field when requested. Assists other Mechanics as needed. Operates company vehicles in accordance with company policy and safe practices.

    Completes all required paperwork neatly, correctly and on time. Uses maintenance data base to document all completed tasks / job assignments. Attend all mandatory Fleet training.

    Performs all other duties as requested by Shop foreman or shop lead mechanic. Adhere to all company policies and procedures. Adherence to and compliance with information systems security is everyone's responsibility.

    It is the responsibility of every computer user to: Know and follow Information Systems security policies and procedures. Attend Information Systems security training, when offered. Report information systems security problems.

Principal Accountabilities:

  • Vehicles repaired and maintained correctly and in a timely fashion. Quickly respond, diagnose and repair vehicles during road call situations.

    Maintain safe and clean work area. Paperwork complete and neat. Accurately account for all parts and materials.

    Excellent customer service skills. Maintain good working relationship with all personnel and professional conduct with outside contacts.
Non-Essential Duties and

  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:


  • Must have a current valid driver's license. Must have a High school diploma, or equivalent education. 2 years verifiable Line Mechanic or Mechanic Helper / Associate experience. 2 ASE Certifications (Truck or Automotive series). Preferably Brake and Steering / Suspension. MACS AC Certification or equivalent ASE Certification. 2 consecutive satisfactory yearly performance appraisals.


  • Ability to prioritize multiple tasks. Ability to work independently and as a team member.

    Ability to employ discretion and confidentiality in sensitive areas. Ability to read, interpret, and follow instructions on memos, letters, various documents and repair manuals. Ability to perform the essential job functions.

    Regular and predictable attendance. Basic automotive knowledge and skills necessary to perform maintenance and repairs on company vehicles. Must have a full set of personal tools.

VIEW JOBS 12/13/2018 12:00:00 AM 2019-03-13T00:00 Requisition #: 10500 Shift : 1 Start Time : 6:00am End Time : 2:30pm Schedule Days : Monday - Friday Position Status: Full Time (40 hrs week) Job Summary: Troubleshoot, repair, recondition, and service Caterpillar and other Empire allied machines, systems and power train components. Troubleshoot; diagnose malfunctions and failures of machines electrical, hydraulic and power train components. Must be able to identify and evaluate root cause failures through the use of electronic tools, schematics and other trouble shooting methods. Be able to demonstrate proper communication methods in order to effectively explain equipment conditions, machine status and recommendations, to customers, associates and management. Preferred 3 years' experience in Heavy Equipment repair and rebuild. Essential Functions: * Troubleshoot and diagnose equipment malfunctions and failures. * Maintain good customer relations and support for corporate marketing objectives. * Repair, recondition, and maintain equipment and components. * Prepare service reports. * Plan and control cost of repair jobs. * Maintain company equipment – keep in good clean orderly condition. * Work safely at all times. Adhere to all applicable safety policies. Comply with all company policies, procedures and standards. Additional Responsibilities: * Own and maintain required personal tools. * Learn and use Empire, Caterpillar and allied product procedures and systems. * Perform other related duties as assigned. * Maintain current MSHA card if work area requires. * Provide on-the-job training to technicians and helpers as assigned. * Work overtime as needed. * Travel to remote locations as needed. * Make warranty recommendations. * Communicate with proper individuals to clarify instructions or discuss scope or progress of job. * Completion of eTRAIN test evaluation. * Must accomplish training and serve as a Green Belt in support of EMPIRE's Six Sigma program. * Work within and promote corporate values. Knowledge Skills and Abilities: * Communicate verbally and in writing, information, instructions and explanations to associates, customers and management regarding vehicle/component/equipment conditions, problems, recommendations, and repair processes. * Basic computer and internet knowledge is required, as well as knowledge in operating scanning/diagnostic tools. * Knowledge and skills to operate and understand diagnostic equipment including computerized instrumentation. * Appropriate manner, conduct, and grooming adhere to company policy. * Ability to work cooperatively and communicate effectively. * Knowledge of CAT machine components and systems. * Must be able to meet all safety requirements for applicable safety policies and use of all required safety equipment. * Must have acceptable attendance to meet all company standards and requirements. Education and Experience: * Proof of high school diploma or General Education Degree (GED). * Current driver's license. * Minimum of 6 months related experience. * Must be able to communicate (speak, read, comprehend, write) in English.
