Description
Works under the general supervision of the Fleet Service Manager. Performs Utah State safety inspections and emissions (Gas & Diesel) test on city vehicles, Performs automotive fluid changes, Tire repairs, Mount and balance tires, Perform on-board diagnostic utilizing computerized scan equipment, Diagnose charging system and replace batteries, Diagnose & replace suspension and steering components, Remove and replace drive train, Diagnose repair & recharge AC system, Install emergency lights & equipment, Diagnose & repair emergency equipment wiring, Remove and replace two-way radio systems, Install decals, Decommission vehicles & equipment, Clean shop, Assist Mechanics with major repairs. Candidates with additional qualified experience may be considered for Mechanic IV - V.
Starting Pay: $24.34 - $31.61 additional pay may be provided depending on experience
Schedule: 40-hours per week, Monday

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Perform automotive & light truck fluid changes.
Repair and mount and balance automotive tires.
Perform on board diagnostic.
Diagnose repair & recharge AC system.
Perform Utah State emissions tests.
Perform automotive & light truck brake replacement jobs.
Diagnose & replace suspension and steering components.
Diagnose charging system and make appropriate repairs.
Install emergency lights & equipment.
Install city decals.
Remove and replace two-way radio systems.
Remove and replace engines and transmission.
Decommission city vehicles & equipment.
Perform normal work required for seasonal equipment preparation and maintenance, i.e. snow plow blade replacement, etc.
Consult with the Fleet Service Manager and/or Fleet Manager prior to performing extensive or costly repairs.
Set an example for other employees by using safe practices and observing safety rules and regulations.
Immediately take appropriate measures to insure personal safety and the safety of others. Report safety concerns immediately to a supervisor or the Fleet Superintendent.
Attend safety/training meetings as required.
Other duties may be assigned.
Requirements

Ability to read and interpret documents such as wiring schematics, safety rules, procedure manuals, operating and maintenance instructions.

Education and/or Experience
High school diploma or general education degree (GED).
At least four years of related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Must possess a valid Utah Driver License.
The following certifications must be obtained within 12 months of employment. Associated testing fees covered by the Fleet division, hands-on training provided.
USSIEL - Utah State Safety Inspection and Emissions (Gas and Diesel) License
ASE G1 - Auto Maintenance & Light Repair
ASE A1 - Engine repair
ASE A2 - Automatic Transmission/Transaxle
ASE A4 - Suspension
ASE A5 - Brakes
ASE A7 - Heating and AC
Ford Brakes
Physical Demands

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

As support staff to emergency crews, employee may be subject to temporary or permanent shift changes, mandatory overtime, and call outs as deemed appropriate to provide necessary services. Every effort will be made to provide advance notice whenever possible.
