Education and Experience: High school diploma or equivalent.

Five years of experience as a professional technician. Three years of experience with scan tool diagnostics.

License and Certifications: Valid Oklahoma Driver's Li-cense and satisfactory driving record.

Must obtain an Oklahoma Commercial Driver's License, Class B with "P" endorsement within twelve (12) months of employment. Ability to obtain Motor Vehicle Air Conditioning (MVAC) Certification under Section 609 of the Clean Air Act within six (6) months of employment. Ability to become a State CNG Certified vehicle inspector within twelve (12) months of employment or as classes become available.

Ability to become an ASE Certified Master Transit Bus Technician. Ability to maintain all required ASE Certifications to keep up with advancing automotive technology.

Knowledge: Operating principles and theories of diesel, gasoline, hybrid, and battery electric vehicles.

Procedures for installation and repairs of parts. Emissions and inspections standards. Safety practices related to repair of equipment. Basic knowledge of computers and data entry.

Skills: Diagnosing equipment malfunctions.

Directing and reviewing the work of others. Reading and interpreting sketches, specifications, diagrams, and instructions outlined in equipment repair manuals and on-line service information. Proficient in operating automotive diagnostic scan tools.

Rebuilding and replacing parts. Operating various hand and power tools and work aids.

Duties and Responsibilities: Performs diagnostics and repair of mechanical failures on City-owned buses, para-transit vehicles, cars, trucks and other standard or heavy equipment; preventable maintenance and inspections; repair and maintenance of electrical systems, air systems and hydraulics to include safety systems as found on buses, such as wheelchair lifts, door sensors, and seatbelt sensors.

Supervises personnel in the absence of the immediate supervisor to include assigning work, opening and closing work orders, instructing and training in methods and procedures, and checking and approving work. Inspects completed work of subordinates and insures departmental and safety standards are met. Maintains all specialized equipment.

Determines equipment malfunctions and repairs or replaces parts to ensure continued operation of vehicles and equipment. Builds and repairs motors. Uses Scan Tool and other related devices to diagnose and repair vehicles and equipment.

Repairs or replaces brake systems. Maintains accurate records of all work performed. Operates wrecker to tow disabled vehicles.

Performs related work as assigned.

Working Conditions: Frequent exposure of up to 80% of work time to dirt, dust, extremes of temperature, and noxious fumes and odors.

Mental and Physical Abilities: Ability to concentrate and pay close attention to detail.

Ability to lift and carry moderately heavy (25-50 lb.) materials, supplies, and equipment frequently. Ability to lift heavy (50-75 lb.) materials, supplies, and equipment occasionally. Work requires continued walking, stooping, standing, and some climbing. Ability to maintain regular, predictable and punctual attendance.
