Works together with other Meat Team Members to assure that all the objectives and goals of the department, as communicated by Team Leader, are met and exceeded. Prepares all meat and poultry products for purchase by customers and assists them with product selection. Knows and abides by company sanitation and food handling requirements and standards.

Essential Duties:

  • Always serve customers in a courteous, helpful, friendly and efficient manner.

  • Work safely. Only operate equipment and knives after being properly trained. Know and observe safe work practices. Immediately report or correct safety hazards.

  • Assure customer safety and satisfaction. Keep sales floor clean and dry at all times. Help customers in other areas of store as needed to facilitate customer service.

  • Be always ready to serve customers: bone leg of lamb, skin chickens, bone turkey breast, prepare boneless pork roasts and gourmet cuts of meat, and answer customers' questions regarding cooking and meat selection.

  • Become familiar with company purpose, policies, standards, procedures, and store merchandise.

  • Become familiar with store policies and procedures including security, intercom & paging system, telephones, returns, etc.

  • Stock and maintain meat and poultry display cases.

  • Break beef hindquarters and forequarters into primal cuts.

  • Bone and fabricate round and headloins for cutting and displays.

  • Cut, trim, and platter steaks and roasts for display in meat case.

  • Bone and roll shoulder clod.

  • Roll or jet-net oven roasts, I.e., sirloin tip and bottom round.

  • Break, trim, cut, scrape, and platter pork loins for display.

  • Process lamb from carcass into various retail cuts (lamb leg, lamb chops, rib chops, etc.)

  • Break and bone veal round for cutlets and ground veal.

  • Cut chickens for breast and leg displays.

  • Remove bone and excess fat from trimmings to make stew, cube stead, and ground beef.

  • Grind lean trimmings for ground beef.

  • Receive and verify all meat products and record according to prescribed receiving procedures.

  • Keep working area clean.

  • Know and always follow all food handling, sanitation & safety procedures.

  • Know selling points of all meat products. Suggestive sell to customers.

  • Keep products properly garnished and displays appearing fresh.

  • Dump trash.

  • Attend at all department, store and training meetings.

  • Follow instructions and perform other duties as requested by the Department and Store Team Leaders.

Job Requirements:

  • Current participant or graduate in the applicable Southern Pacific Region Career Development program or equivalent from another region.

  • Strong desire to become the Meat Team Leader.

  • Ability to work well within a team.

  • Can lift a minimum of 15 up to 40 pounds.

  • Able to meet physical job requirements.

  • Must have a passion for natural foods.

  • Able to communicate effectively with others and convey enthusiasm.

  • Possess some customer service experience.

  • Must be self-motivated and solution-oriented.

  • Is available for flexible scheduling to meet the needs of the department.

  • Desire to learn all aspects of Team.

  • Possession of a current Serv-Safe certificate is highly recommended.

  • Must have Store Team Leader approval.

  • Team Member must be in good standing.

  • Team Members with written active Corrective Counseling's must disclose this information to the hiring leader when they are applying for a transfer or promotion.

  • Team Members on an active Final Warning are ineligible to apply or be considered for transfers or promotions.

  • Team Members must work 6 months in current position before requesting a transfer.

Working Conditions:

  • Some reaching above and below shoulder height.

  • Some exposure to dust, fumes and chemicals.

  • Repetitive use of hands and fine manipulation.

  • May need to use a ladder or stool to reach product or supplies.

  • Exposure to continuous background and occasional loud noises.

  • Any item over 40 pounds requires a team lift.

This position is responsible for supporting the sales efforts at a Sherwin-Williams paint store, servicing wholesale and retail customers.
