Job Overview

The MDI Software Developer engages in research, development, and implementation of secure and private distributed protocols at the Massive Data Institute (MDI) at the McCourt School of Public Policy. They collaborate with Researchers in the Data-Coops project to design and develop secure and private distributed protocols in duties that include but are not limited to:

  • Protocol Development
  • Developing the software for secure and private distributed protocols
  • Protocol Design
  • Working with the Data-Coops team to design secure and private distributed protocols
  • Data Analysis and Research Support
  • Applying the protocol to different applications and measuring its effectiveness, and providing general technical support for the protocol research
  • Website Development
  • Developing the website for the prototype protocols

Work Interactions

Reporting directly to the MDI Director, and to the Principal Investigator/Associate Professor, the MDI Software Developer interacts with researchers of the Data-Coops project, other technical staff, faculty at other universities, and students.

Qualifications

  • BSc in Computer Science

  • 6 to 8 years of experience [or equivalent combination of education and relevant work experience] - and within that experience, 3 to 5 years of work in Computer Science research and/or development

  • Strong technical skills

  • Ability to understand computer science research as it relates to cryptographic protocols and differential privacy

  • Advanced programming and analytical skills, and knowledge of statistical programming

  • Basic knowledge in number theory; and qualified in programming, software development, engineering, and writing

  • Ability to design and code software independently

Preferred qualifications

  • Google, Amazon or Azure Cloud experience

  • Programming proficiency in JAVA, PYTHON, and C++

  • Application programming skills

  • Web development skills, including JavaScript, HTML, CSS, and PHP

  • Database administration knowledge - preference for Postgres

  • Understanding of statistics and statistical programming packages
