MCSO HR Consultant

Salary Range: $59,529-$74,411

HR Professional Certification, Notary & DCI Training will be provided for up to $3500 dollar value; Tuition Reimbursement offered up to $5250 per calendar year once eligibility has been met. Flexible work hours, Team environment; great introduction to public service opportunities.

This is a salary exempt position. Pay rates are based on education, skill, experience level and internal equity. Internal equity considerations include an assessment of the applicant's salary history and qualifications in comparison to the market rate and requirements for the job.

Position Summary

The incumbent manages the MCSO Employee Services Center (a central hub within Sheriff's Office Human Resources that provides information, guidance and direction of resources for all who call seeking information) and will provide administrative support for the MCSO Human Resources Division. Assists and answers employee questions related to general HR, benefits, payroll, retirement, leaves of absence, NCSS Certification processes, and/or the recruitment and selection process.

  • Responsible for managing and coordinating personnel action forms; compiling and preparing reports and correspondence pertaining to personnel activities.

  • Responsible for conducting necessary audits and reviewing dates as well as other important confidential data; keys information into computer.

  • Responsible for processing, verifying, and maintaining personnel related documentation.

  • Examining employee files to answer inquiries and providing information for personnel actions.

  • Answering questions regarding salaries, incentives, benefits, and other pertinent information.

  • Exercises judgment and works without close supervision.

  • Requires good communication and decision-making skills.

  • Possess excellent organizational skills, the ability to prioritize, able to meet deadlines, excellent record keeper, and the ability to manage a large workload with multiple tasks occurring throughout the workday.

Duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Filing, scheduling, screening of applicants (as needed), copying, running criminal record checks (DCI), back-up support for making employee ID cards and coordinating pick up of same.

  • Must successfully pass DCI certification training, maintain same, and become well versed in running and interpreting DCI records. Certification is required and the training is provided and arranged by the Sheriff's Office.

  • Knowledgeable in Microsoft Excel (VLookup & Pivot Tables) and other Microsoft Office Suite applications.\

  • Knowledgeable in principles of bookkeeping and ability to apply this knowledge in varied Human Resource work situations and must understand compensation and benefits.

  • Audits personnel action forms: audits pay and reviews dates; keys information into computer.

  • Supports MCSO-HR Director with areas within HR needing assistance.

  • As well as responsible for all other duties and tasks as assigned.

Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in Business Administration; 1-3 years HR Generalist experience or 5 years of progressive diverse experience in various HR Functions, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Candidate must be knowledgeable in principles of bookkeeping and ability to apply this knowledge in varied Human Resource work situations and must have an understanding of compensation and benefits. Must be knowledgeable in Microsoft Excel, Word and PowerPoint.

Must successfully pass DCI certification training, maintain same, and become well versed in running and interpreting DCI records. DCI Certification is required and the training is provided and arranged by the Sheriff's Office. Willing to obtain/ successfully pass HR Professional Certification. If no certification is held, training is provided and arranged by the Sheriff's Office. Structured interview and HR assessment will be part of the recruitment and selection process for this position.

Preferred Qualifications: Currently DCI Certified and/or a Notary and/or certified: SHRM-CP, SHRM-SCP, SPHR, PHR and/or IPMA-CP, IPMA-SCP and Bilingual is a plus.
