Job Description Job Description SUMMARY: Provide non-clinical, person-centered peer support to individuals and families impacted by mental health and substance use challenges.
Empower individuals by offering guidance and emotional support while navigating recovery resources. Use personal recovery experiences to foster hope, facilitate mutual learning, and strengthen individuals’ self-determination. Serve as a role model, sharing stories of resilience and recovery to inspire trust and build rapport.
Participate as a valued member of a multidisciplinary team, providing insight into recovery-focused practices. Assist in creating and implementing individualized recovery plans based on client-identified goals. QUALIFICATIONS: Associates of Arts Degree preferred; High School Graduate or Equivalent minimum.
Meets the requirements for or holds Florida Recovery Peer Specialist or Recovery Support Specialist Certificatio n through the Florida Certification Board. Will accept Provisional Certification with intent to obtain hours. Self identifies as a person who has direct personal experience living in recovery from mental health and/or substance use conditions and has a desire to use their experiences to help others with their recovery.
Is willing to publicly identify as a person living in recovery for the purpose of educating, role modeling, and providing hope to others about the reality of recovery and has had the proper training and experience to work in a provider role. A valid driver’s license is required as some driving and/or transportation may be required to take clients to medical appointments, job sites, social activities and other community resources. Use of personal vehicle required with mileage reimbursement provided.
Must pass a Level Two background screening for Peer Recovery Specialist. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Ability to sit, stand, type, and drive for extended periods.
Capable of working in diverse environments and responding to emergencies effectively. Must complete Non-Abusive Psychological and Physical Intervention (NAPPI) training and demonstrate the ability to apply its techniques. Ability to communicate clearly and effectively, both orally and in writing.
SPECIAL WORKING CONDITIONS: Regular exposure to clients and various program environments, including potential long and irregular hours, such as weekends. May encounter emergency situations, including exposure to verbally abusive or potentially violent individuals. Willingness to work alternative hours as needed, including local travel.
