JOB TITLE: McKinney-Vento Assistant
Job Summary: The purpose of the McKinney-Vento Program Assistant is to serve as a resource to Federal Programs personnel to provide educational access to students experiencing houselessness.
The McKinney-Vento Program Assistant will assist families with accessing resources and support, and with document preparation for district and community-based referrals, arrange transportation, support student engagement, and attendance. Strong communication skills, trauma-informed care, and cultural competency are essential for this position. Spanish-speaking applicants are highly preferred. This is a grant-funded position.
Essential Job Functions:
Assist the McKinney-Vento Homeless Liaison in supporting McKinney-Vento homeless education students in our school district.
Arrange transportation through Transportation Department, order and track Tri-Met passes.
Coordinate with designees, social workers and school staff to order, and shop for supplies (clothing, shoes, etc.), laundry cards and other services provided to youth and families.
Order/organize McKinney Vento supplies and hygiene items.
Ensure families have laundry cards and re-load them each month, as necessary. Liaison with Laundry Company.
In collaboration with Liaison, coordinate with McKinney families and their students to assess needs and barriers to learning. The position requires occasional home, shelter, and hotel/motel visits to deliver supplies or post notices.
Participate in various meetings and trainings for the purpose of sharing information and/or improving one's skills/knowledge.
Other duties as assigned by the Division of Student & Family Services.
Qualifications:
Experience Required:
Job related experience in the principles of McKinney-Vento Act and trauma-informed practices, strong record keeping and communication skills required. This position requires flexibility and a strong commitment to supporting homeless students access educational opportunities.
Skills, Knowledge and/or Abilities Required:
Skills to perform basic clerical functions, perform basic arithmetic calculations, operate standard office equipment, use English in both written and verbal form, use correct grammar, punctuation and spelling; to communicate with school staff, family members, guardians and students.
Knowledge of the principles of McKinney-Vento Act and trauma-informed practices.
Abilities to understand and carry out oral and written instructions, maintain confidentiality of student records, meet schedules and deadline, read/interpret/apply rules, regulations and policies, rapidly learn methods and materials used in a variety of instructional situations, understand and address (in special assignments) students with special needs.
Bilingual/Bicultural preferred
Education Required:
High School diploma or equivalent
Must have the equivalent of 2 years of college (associate degree or 60 credits) or have passed the Work Keys (with a score of at least 4 on all sections) or PARA Pro Test.
Licenses, Certification, Bonding and/or Testing Required: Oregon Fingerprint and Criminal Check clearance, First Aid and CPR certificates may be required in special assignments.

Work Schedule: Monday through Friday, 8 hours per day. 213-day calendar, prorated on start date for 23-24 school year.
