QUALIFICATIONS: Valid Kentucky Certification

REPORTS TO: Principal


  • All teachers are employed for the purpose of teaching children. The Board of Education requires the teachers accept the children where they are and advance them in their educational life for the time that they have them.

  • The school day shall be fifteen minutes before the official opening of school and fifteen minutes after the closing of school, with the exception of those teachers assigned to early and late bus duty.

  • It shall be the duty of all teachers to keep accurate records of lesson plans, student grades, reports to parents, attendance, inventories and other such reports deemed necessary by the building principal.

  • Maintains at all time an orderly learning atmosphere and keeps the Principal fully informed of the general education program's activities and problems.

  • Employs a variety of instructional techniques with the priority of teaching basic academic skills.

  • Utilizes a variety of instructional materials and available multimedia and computer technology to enhance learning.

  • Manages allotted learning time to maximize student achievement.

  • Teaches the adopted county and school curriculum as established by the State Department of Education, the Board of Education, and the school's SBDM Council.

  • Develops lesson plans, instructional materials, appropriate tasks, and provide individualized and small group instruction in order to adapt the curriculum to the individual needs of each pupil.

  • Takes an active part in the professional development of the school and the district.

  • Assists in the selection of books, software, equipment, and other instructional materials, and keeps abreast of new trends and research in education reform.

  • Works cooperatively with the administration, other teachers, support personnel, and the SBDM Council in planning instructional goals, objectives, methods, and evaluation.

  • Assists resource teachers, Title I teachers, gifted education teachers, and other teachers/coordinators in the identification process of students for placement in the various supplemental educational programs.

  • Strives constantly to determine if factors that contribute to low academic performance are present, and makes any necessary referrals for specialized help or services to various agencies.

  • Counsels and evaluates students by providing guidance to pupils which will promote their welfare, self-esteem, and educational development.

  • Evaluates student progress on a regular basis and maintains appropriate assessment and evaluation documentation for district, school, and individual reporting purposes.

  • Administers group standardized tests in accordance with the district's testing program.

  • Utilizes teaching strategies which incorporate activities that will enhance performance events and open-response assessments.

  • Continually communicates with students on instructional expectations and keeps them informed of their progress in meeting those expectations.

  • Communicates with parents through conferences and other means to discuss pupil's progress and interpret the school's program.

  • Makes provisions for being available to students and parents for education-related purposes including, under reasonable terms, time outside the instructional day.

  • Creates a safe, disciplined, and effective classroom environment for learning through functional and attractive displays, bulletin boards, and learning centers, and making sure all materials are in good condition and accessible to students.

  • Assists the administration in implementing all policies and rules governing student life (Code of Acceptable Behavior & Discipline), develops reasonable rules of classroom behavior and procedures, and maintains order in the classroom in a fair and just manner.

  • Takes all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.

  • Maintains proper inventories of non-expendable school supplies, materials, and equipment assigned to the classroom.

  • Shares duties of the school as assigned by the Principal, and supervises pupils in out-of-classroom activities during the assigned working day.

  • Participates in school-based decision making, including electing teacher Council representatives, serving on the Council, and/or providing input and feedback on all matters relating to the operation of the school in his/her building.

  • Supports or participates in school-wide student activities and social events and approved fund-raising activities is applicable.

  • Attends all regular and special called faculty meetings, unless excused by the Principal, and serves on staff committees as required.

  • Refrain from making any public comment about any student that might be considered critical or derogatory.

  • Always maintain the highest professional standards in personal conduct.

  • Performs related duties and assumes other responsibilities as may be assigned by the Principal or Superintendent.

The mission of the program is to enhance at-risk students' ability to succeed in school by developing and sustaining partnerships that promote early learning and successful transition to school, academic achievement and well-being, and graduation and transition into adult life. DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS: FRYSC Coordinators are assigned to a specific school or schools and tasked with the role of being the connection between the school and outside service agencies and the greater community to help relieve the stress on families and remove non-cognitive barriers to learning. REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES: * Train community members as volunteers in the school * Seek business and industry involvement for career readiness and internship/shadowing opportunities and coordinate this program with other faculty at MCHS * Complete module training in: History & Philosophy, Leadership, Advisory Councils, Strategic and Consolidated Planning, and resource development and sustainability as required by the Community Education grant * Create extended learning opportunities for students which may include creating physical spaces that are flexible and adaptable, enabling collaboration, interacting and sharing information * Provide leadership to coordinate projects, programs or activities to help at-risk youth and their families to remove the non-cognitive barriers to learning * Develop, establish, or administer projects, programs, and activities * Serve as a liaison with outside agencies, businesses, and organizations * Make recommendations regarding implementation of projects, programs, or activities and evaluate the effectiveness of them * Maintain communication and work closely with district staff, local school staff, and the community regarding information, developments, and implementation of the projects, programs and activities. * Prepare and assist in preparation of reports, records, and other documentation as required * Accumulate and research data, documents, and other pertinent information as required. * Assure compliance with federal, state, and district policy, administrative procedures and negotiated agreements as applicable to the assignment * Complete all FRYSC Coordinator Training Requirements annually * Perform related duties as assigned KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES KNOWLEDGE OF: * Subject matter in area of assignment * Short and long range planning techniques * In-service materials, subject matter and methods * Record-keeping techniques * Oral and written communication skills * Public speaking techniques * Research methods and report writing techniques * Laws, rules and regulations pertaining to Family Resource Youth Service Centers * Interpersonal skills using tact, patience and courtesy * Principles of training and providing work direction ABILITY TO: * Provide leadership in activities involving complex decisions and professional outside contact * Possess self-motivation and the ability to work independently * Communicate effectively both orally and in writing * Prepare and deliver oral presentations * Establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with others * Maintain records and prepare reports * Prioritize and schedule work * Maintain current knowledge of requirements of a FRYSC Coordinator * Analyze situations accurately and adopt an effective course of action * Meet schedules and timelines * Work well with students, parents and other district employees PERFORMANCE STANDARDS * Complies with all required mandates concerning the Family Resource and Youth Services Centers including, but not limited to, program evaluation, budgeting, required reporting, and information dissemination * Displays knowledge of the core components of Family Resource Centers * Maintains communication with SBDM committees, local advisory councils, the local board of education and the community * Develops, implements, and evaluates yearly action components for FRC and/or YSC grant * Ensures legal and ethical standards are maintained to safeguard the privacy, rights, and dignity of individuals and families served by the center * Maintains and protects FRC and/or YSC records in accordance with federal and state laws * Informs and seeks input from local advisory councils according to policies, and procedures * Complies with all regulations and procedures of local districts EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: Any combination equivalent to Bachelor's Degree and four years successful experience working with students and/or community agencies who work with juveniles Marshall County Schools Benton KY
