TITLE: Elementary Intervention, Math & Science Specialist
QUALIFICATIONS:
Valid elementary teaching license
Master's Degree or advanced studies in curriculum and instruction, reading, mathematics, science or related field preferred
Prior successful experience as an elementary classroom teacher, reading, math or science specialist
Training in Reading Recovery and/or Math-Science Recovery preferred
Demonstrated effective interpersonal skills
Other qualifications that are acceptable to the Board of Education
SALARY: NC Teacher Salary + 18% supplement

SUPERVISES: May coordinate and direct activities of paraprofessionals, volunteers and/or clerical assistants.
REPORTS TO: School Principal or Principal's designee
JOB GOAL: To develop and to implement a pre-K and elementary school hands-on, minds-on science program that stresses active-involvement, process science, is coordinated with the state science competencies, and is appropriate to the school site.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
Develops hands-on science/math activities, kits, centers, and units to facilitate science/math instruction.
Works with teachers in the implementation of the science/math curriculum.
Provides science/math demonstration lessons, as requested.
Assists in the selection of science/math textbooks, materials, and equipment. Orders and maintains science/math materials and equipment.
Facilitates the use of local and state resources for science/math instruction.
Communicates and coordinates with other science/math educators. Gathers, organizes, and disseminates science/math information.
Meets periodically with the principal and teachers to evaluate and to make recommendations about the science/math programs in the school.
Supervises Science/Math Lab Assistant(s).
Works with students on science/math-related activities as appropriate.
Provides and/or coordinates science/math staff development as requested.
Coordinates a parent volunteer program for science/math, as appropriate. Plans and coordinates science/math activities such as family science/math days, field trips, school-wide science/math programs, and science/math fairs.
Represents the school at science/math meetings, conferences, and workshops as requested.
Serves as a resource in integrating science/math with other subject areas and technology.
Provides small group instruction or interventions, collaboratively in the classroom or in a separate setting, to non proficient or fragile students in reading, writing, mathematics, and/or science using research-based models.
Provides expert knowledge about best intervention practice, instructional strategies and practices to classroom teachers for implementation as applicable.
Serves on the Student Support Team to assist in the development of intervention strategies and plans.
Promotes and models peer collaboration.
Collaborates with classroom teachers in grades K-5 to assist in the development, administration, and analysis of assessments.
Monitors formative and summative student assessments to plan instructional programming to meet the needs of students served.
Collaborates with the school administration to determine student service plan/schedule.
Supports targeted students during safety net time.
Implements test-prep strategies with identified students during spring of each year.
Assists classroom teachers in the development of proficiency portfolios for reading, writing, science and mathematics.
Performs such other duties as may be assigned by the School Principal.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Ten-month position. Salary is in accordance with adopted schedule
EVALUATION: Performance of this job will be evaluated annually in accordance with provisions of the School Board policy on Evaluation of classified personnel.
