Type: Full-time position. Work hours are generally 8:15 am

  • 4:45 pm. Flexibility in the work schedule is expected due to the nature of working in a start-up environment. Candidates should have the flexibility to travel, and work in the evenings, and on the weekends, as needed. The schedule will be adjusted to accommodate after-hours assignments.

SUMMARY

Reporting to the Assistant Principal

  • Academics, the Mathematics Specialist serves as a key member of the Instructional Leadership Team, ensuring that the campus meets high standards of organizational, academic, and customer service excellence with a strong focus on driving strong student achievement outcomes. As an Academy of Visual and Performing Arts Mathematics Specialist, your core responsibilities, at a minimum, include:

Instructional Leadership

  • Develop, implement, and manage the mathematics intervention program consistent with the requirements of the AVPA mission and the Multi-tiered System of Supports program requirements and regulations.

  • Work with staff to facilitate universal mathematics screeners, diagnostic assessments, and formative and summative assessments.

  • Continuously monitor, track, and analyze student performance and achievement data in order to inform practice, identify needs, and determine strategies to support all students.

  • Assist teachers with instructional strategies designed to improve the mathematics/numeracy skills of struggling students.

  • Collaborate with teachers individually to identify the mathematics needs of students, set learning goals and targets, and problem-solve with teachers in order to develop best practices for the continuous academic growth of students.

Mathematics Interventionist

  • Provide students with the appropriate research-based mathematics interventions utilizing high-quality, research-based supplemental instructional materials individually and/or small-group, as needed.

  • Maintains and submits accurate and up-to-date management records of all students' progress.

  • Plans and develops special mathematics projects; assists with planning according to data and assessments.

Professional Development

  • Support the development of high-quality and effective mathematics instruction in all subjects, including participating in instructional planning, professional learning, and professional development.

  • Conduct professional development on adolescent mathematics/numeracy acquisition and improving the quality of mathematics instruction.

  • Collaborate with staff to plan arts-integrated, project-based learning experiences.
