ABOUT VIPHS

We are a site-based charter high school with grades 9-12, located in the San Fernando Valley that focuses on communications and college preparation and advisement. Our current enrollment cap is 400, with an average class size ratio of 22:1.

Mission:

The mission of Valley International Preparatory High School is to prepare students for college through a variety of stimulating and challenging instructional methodologies, an extensive college counseling process that focuses on "right fit" for every student, and an academic program that fosters self-reflection and strong communication skills.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES



Exhibit and uphold VIPHS core values




Create a community culture of learning in the classroom




Engage in data-driven planning and assessment of student learning




Establish a culture of respect and rapport with the students which supports the students' emotional safety




Facilitate rigorous learning by delivering cognitively engaging lessons that incorporate elements of explicit direct instruction, project based learning, constructivist discussion techniques, and more




Engage in critical reflection, constantly revising practice to increase effectiveness




Participate in a professional community across the school site




Facilitate an advisory class where the College Board's advisory curriculum is implemented along with teacher-created lesson plans around college choice, planning, and goal-setting




Develop partnerships within the community by communicating with families and leveraging resources that support student success in college, leadership, and life



This job primarily operates on a school site and in classrooms, and will utilize typical office equipment (computers, phones, photocopiers, etc.). Physical demands include: positioning to lift (should be able to lift up to 50 pounds to waist high), carry, push, and/or pull, kneel, stoop, crouch and bend. Generally, the job is 50% Stationary and 50% moving/traversing.

Normal business hours are approximately 8:00am - 4:00pm, Monday-Friday (although these hours may vary and may require occasional evening and weekend work based on organizational needs). Minimal or no travel required.

QUALIFICATIONS



A growth mindset and love of learning




Bachelor's degree and passage of the CBEST




California single-subject intern, preliminary, or clear credential




Strong content knowledge, pedagogical understanding, and the capacity to plan and deliver instruction to meet the needs of students.

COMPENSATION

Our annual teacher salary is negotiable and will be based on education and experience. We will also offer a comprehensive benefits plan, participation in the CalSavers retirement program, Vanguard 403B plan, up to $2,500 a year in an emergency support grant, as well as the opportunity to impact a growing, mission-driven school that is committed to the success of all students.
