Did you totally ace your Intro Stats class? Do you love explaining how to solve a differential equation? Then we need you! The MCLA Math Drop-In Center is hiring tutors for the Fall semester.
The Math Drop-In Center is an open, appointment free space where MCLA students can stop by any time to get help on math related questions and problems. We service students in a wide range of subject areas, from Psychology to Physics, Math to Business. The Math Drop-in Center seeks students to serve as peer tutors. They will hold regular weekly hours at the Math Drop-in Center, where they will serve as peer tutors, create resources for students, and keep data on students served at the center.
Never tutored before? No problem! All tutors receive tutor training at the beginning of the semester. All you need to bring is your math knowledge and a passion for helping your fellow students.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Engage in meetings and trainings with Drop-in supervisor and other peer tutors.
Help students who come in on a drop-in basis.
Professionally and independently conducting tutoring sessions as scheduled. Collect and report data of students served at the center.
Meet regularly with supervising faculty to talk about the progress at the center and any challenges that arise.
Becoming familiar with texts and other resources useful for tutoring.
Create resources together with professors based on student needs and faculty input.
Serve as peer tutor in mathematics courses, as well as other math-related STEM courses.
Hold tutoring hours in the Math Drop-in Center during weekly scheduled hours.
Requirements:
Tutors must:
Have at least a 3.0 GPA overall or a 3.3 in their most recent semester.
Have an appropriate background in mathematics.
Be interviewed by a member of the Math Drop-in Center supervising faculty.
Ability to tutor at least two of the following topics: Statistics, Precalculus, Calculus Sequence, Business Statistics, Psych Research & Stats I/II, Programming in Python, Programming in Java.
