Role Summary

Under the direction of the Materials Superintendent, plans, directs and coordinates activities relating to the materials department activities including safety, quality, productivity and employee relations. Supervises the Materials department's Team Leaders, Sequencer/Tuggers and Forklift Truck Drivers.

Key Responsibilities

  • Supervises daily activities of the Materials department's Team Leaders, Sequencer/Tuggers and Forklift Truck Drivers.

  • Plans, directs and coordinates all inbound, outbound movement of material within the JIT manufacturing facility.

  • Assists the Materials Superintendent in determining and managing appropriate manpower requirements.

  • Assists in managing material cycle counts and annual physical inventory reconciliation.

  • Participates and leads process improvement projects: productivity, quality, ergonomics, etc.

  • Trains new and transferred employees on their job duties and responsibilities; and cross trains as necessary.

  • Ensures employees are consistently adhering to standardized work processes and rotation schedules.

  • Ensures all Company policies, procedures, plant standards and safety rules are consistently adhered to.

  • Collaborates with the Department Manager and Human Resources Manager in the administration of disciplinary action, when necessary.

  • Monitors, maintains and records employees' time related to the Attendance and Time-Off Policies (e.g. vacation, medical day, bereavement, jury duty, etc). Records approved time-off requests in E-Time; and ensures required time-off requests with supporting documentation are processed completely and timely.

Additional Information

  • High school diploma or equivalent.

  • Powered Industrial Truck Permit (requires a passing score on the Powered Industrial Truck training tests administered by Magna Seating

  • Minimum of two (2) years of materials supervisory experience or a minimum of five (5) years of materials team leadership experience in a tier-one automotive manufacturing facility.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

  • Team oriented, communicates well with others, and able to interact with people at all levels and departments.

  • Excellent problem solving and leadership skills.

  • Detail oriented and excellent documentation skills.

  • Working knowledge of safety standards and OSHA guidelines.

  • Proficient with Word, Excel, PowerPoint and MRP.

Key Responsibilities * Provides leadership and daily direction * Follows up and resolves supplier delivery issues. Drives corrective action. * Monitors and strives to improve department KOI's. * Manages and reviews cycle count activities to ensure integrity of inventory in ERP system. * Ensures supplier releases are accurately developed and distributed in a timely fashion. * Monitors the inbound supply of materials to ensure an adequate supply at all times. * Continuously strives to optimize inventory levels and reduce cost. * Oversees tracking and execution of engineering changes from Bill of Materials to production implementation. * Develops department procedures and ensures adherence. * Maintains top OEM service scores. * Ensures the thoroughness and timely completion of scheduled performance reviews for all employees under their supervision. * Ensures all Company policies, procedures, plant standards, and safety rules are consistently adhered to Company policy Key Qualifications/Requirements To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty and responsibility satisfactorily. Education/Certification/Licensure: Bachelors Degree in Engineering, Business Administration, Logistics, Supply Chain Management or related field; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Experience: Minimum of seven (7) years of progressive materials experience in a JIT automotive environment. Knowledge/Skills/Abilities: Demonstrates strong leadership skills with excellent written and verbal communication skills. Demonstrates a high level of interpersonal skills to effectively communicate and present information to customers, suppliers, vendors, management, employees and corporate personnel. Excellent analytical, problem resolution and project management skills. Strong knowledge of ERP systems. Strong organizational skills; and the ability to successfully manage multiple tasks and priorities within and across departments/business units to meet established and changing deadlines.
