BWXT is currently seeking a Materials Scientist for its Lynchburg, VA - Ramsey Place location!
The Advanced Technology Programs (ATP) group at BWXT designs and develops innovative new nuclear reactors, medical isotope solutions, and related systems for internal and external customers. ATP is seeking an experienced Materials Scientist to assist in the development of these systems.
Technical lead researcher of contracts and internal development working with the additive manufacturing of metals for nuclear products. Experiment intensive, hands-on environment.
Define/Design experiments for different metals and additive manufacturing technologies such as electron beam and laser systems.
Identify critical activities, conduct microstructural characterization and analyses using SEM, TEM, EDS, EBSD, XRD, XPS. Interpret mechanical and nuclear testing results.
Master's Degree in Materials Science is required, PhD preferred. PhD may substitute for some years of experience.
Nuclear engineering education or background is strongly preferred.
Experience with neutronic or thermal-hydraulic code and applications, reactor core subsystems, fuel and cladding is a plus.
Must be a US Citizen with no dual citizenship.
Must be able to obtain and maintain a U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) clearance.
Travel (10-20%) domestic and international is required.
U.S. Citizenship, with no dual citizenship is required for this position.
