Overview

Working under the direction of the Sr. Manufacturing Engineer Manager, the M&P Engineer is responsible for interpreting, developing, modifying, applying and maintaining processes and standards for processing materials into finished or partially finished product.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Assists Engineering in determining specification-controlled raw material requirements and then enters/maintains relevant databases for Kaman Aerospace sites.

  • Conducts research and investigations on new materials and processes to support optimization of manufacturing processes. Advise procurement, engineering, quality and management personnel as to the acceptability of potential alternatives to specification-controlled raw materials, consistent with trade-off considerations.

  • Interprets customer and nationally recognized heat-treat specifications and creates and updates detailed work instructions for Kaman Aerospace Jacksonville's heat-treat personnel. Interprets customer's temper inspection requirements and creates engineering guidelines for specifying temper inspection requirements on work orders. Leads efforts for maintenance and acquisition of international accreditation of special processes (heat treatment, chemical finishing, etc.).

  • Monitors accuracy of those requirements in work orders and instructs engineering when corrections are required. Investigates and analyzes issues resulting in rejected parts at temper inspection and parts improperly heat treated and/or aged due to power outages, equipment malfunctions or work order/operator errors. Prescribes and monitors corrective actions.

  • Teaches basic aluminum metallurgy course to production and inspection personnel as required.

  • Interprets APS (adhesives, paints and sealants) materials requirements through customer/national specifications and specifies manufacturer and/or Kaman experimentation, inspection, certification and/or test report requirements.

  • Coordinates with Purchasing to contact suppliers to discuss technical issues when appropriate. Generates and maintains pertinent data in two joint data bases, ie, MDS and WDS, for Aerospace sites.

  • Provides technical assistance about APS (adhesives/paints/sealants) materials to personnel across the site.

  • Assists personnel in interpretation of process specifications. Creates, modifies and updates Jacksonville Production Procedures (JPP) as required.

  • Provides support to the Quality Laboratory when testing anomalies arise. Makes suggestions and gives direction for alternative test methods when specified testing is not possible. Assists in interpretation of test results when necessary while maintaining compliance.

Qualifications

  • Broad knowledge of an advanced and technically or professionally specialized field such as materials science, engineering, metallurgy or other comparable studies.

  • Bachelor's degree in related field such as materials science required. 1 to 2 years work in a graduate school leading to a Master's Degree preferred.

  • Excellent computers skills a must.
