Materials Manager

Summary

The Materials Manager executes the opportunity to make an impact in a broad and visible role at an industry leader -- not only is the company expanding, but you also will lead strong growth in your areas of responsibility. You will assume responsibility for all plant-level purchasing. This will include overseeing direct and indirect team members. The Purchasing Manager will be expected to support current and future strategic activities as well as position the Supply Chain group to be stronger, faster, and quicker. The ability to communicate, anticipate, and resolve issues is an additional function of this position as well as being pro-active.

The essential duties and functions will encompass Supply Chain Visibility, Purchasing, Supplier, and Inventory Management, as well as internal and external cross functional collaboration including alignment of supply chain strategies with business strategies to provide on time in full delivery to customers. This position is responsible for the overall strategy and execution of Supply Chain Purchasing, management functions as well as the planning and directing of activities and operations of the team. This position is to lead the supply chain to provide service to deliver what the customer needs, when it is needed, in the correct quantities with the lowest cost.

What You'll Do

• Develops, leads, and executes purchasing and inventory strategies.

• Manages and leads members of the purchasing, both directly and indirectly.

• Identifies and forecasts upcoming levels of demand and executes against supplier agreements and/or contracts.

• Builds, maintains, and improves relationships with vendors through Vendor Relationship Management.

• Evaluates vendors based on quality, timeliness, and price.

• Aligns, collaborates, and coordinates with stake holders to ensure maximum efficiency and best cost while executing risk mitigation strategies.

• Ensures that all procured items meet the required quality standards and specifications, and addresses problems when they arise. Determines corrective action when problems are encountered, including deviations, returns, credits, and/or exchanges of unacceptable goods.

• Direct involvement with manufacturing and material requirements to ensure consistent flow of materials to support production.

• Develops and manages inventory controls to maximize fulfillment of demands.

• Defines and executes continuous improvement opportunities to streamline processes and improve accuracy/efficiency/cost savings.

• Tracks and reports key functional metrics to reduce expenses and improve effectiveness.

• Monitors market trends to identify changes of balance in buyer-supplier power.

• Assists with constrained suppliers as required and helps planning break through internal and external constraints.

• Utilizes capable problem-solving skills to accept frequent challenges that confront typical shop floor environments (scrap, labor and machine constraints, production delays, quality, and tooling issues, etc.) and manages those challenges effectively.

• Ensures that procurement records are maintained to document items or services purchased, costs, delivery, product quality or performance, and inventories.

• Stays current with purchasing technology trends and oversees implementation and execution.

• Operates in compliance with all company policies and procedures (business ethics, export, and SOX compliance, etc.).

Who You Are

• Bachelor's degree

• 5+ years' experience with purchasing, dealing with bulk goods, extrusions or related commodities.

• Strong ability to plan and manage component supply levels to ensure the timely and adequate flow of materials to manufacturing.

• Strong math/finance proficiency. Team player with excellent communication skills.

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
