ITW Specialty Films designs, manufactures and markets specialized coated and/or metalized films for the Transaction Card, Security Documents, Medical IV bags, and Consumer Packaging markets. The division leverages unique core competencies and technologies in films, foils, laminates, holography and transfers to address customer needs globally. Operates in 13 locations (NA, EU, Asia).
The Materials Manager will be responsible for the company's end-to-end sourcing of products and services essential for our operations. In addition, the individual will be responsible for all phases of purchasing that require the skills necessary to identify cost saving opportunities, create competitive environments, creatively negotiate, generate contracts to assure seamless availability of all products to support the company objectives.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Effectively manages the flow of raw materials into the plant
Carry out purchasing activity in line with expectations concerning price, quality and delivery Document/update price changes and distributor changes for materials. Order office supplies and KanBan for ink cartridges and labels. Submit freight claims for damaged materials.
Enter, track and update POs, expedite shipments, review and set raw material inventory targets, and manage stock outs Manage outside warehouses for film and packaging. Use inventory grading reports to meet inventory targets
Respond to purchasing and planning enquiries, liaising between suppliers and internal department to control costs
Work closely with manufacturing suppliers to build relationships and ensure on-time in-full delivery to site. Track late shipments and contact suppliers.
Work with existing replenishment system (ABC) and develop plans to support production and on-time in-full customer service. Submit pre-approvals to plant manager for non-inventory items before placing orders.
Key voice in the supplier and raw material selection and accountable for purchasing decisions and inventory levels.
Gather and analyze supplier performance metrics in conjunction with Q.A. team.
Conduct audits and assessments on key suppliers
Manages supplier rationalization & raw material standardization
Collaborate with key site functional teams to manage raw material allocations and discontinuations.
Engage suppliers to better understand market dynamics
Drive greater sourcing value to the organization by engaging departments and their stakeholders
Responsible for executing divisional sourcing strategy. Participate in bi-monthly Sourcing conference calls.
Deliver cost savings and improved conversion costs by executing defined operation and sourcing projects based on ITW's business framework
Monitor the progress of projects against agreed plans to ensure they are delivered in a timely fashion, within budget and to the required quality. Request/receive certificates of analysis for all incoming raw materials electronically where possible.
Perform raw material risk assessments and implement mitigation strategy.
Maintain and update operational reports and databases, ensuring appropriate records are prepared and maintained for internal and external meetings
Communication of operational activity to staff and management including regular updating of achievement and progress against plan.
Supervise Receiving Clerk duties and personnel.
Position Skills and Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree and at least three (3) years purchasing/sourcing experience along with three plus year's relevant operations/supply chain experience.
3-5 years of work experience in manufacturing environment preferred
Good knowledge of vendor sourcing practices (researching, evaluating and liaising with vendors)
Solid knowledge and understanding of supply chain and purchasing processes, policy, and systems
Solid analytical skills with the ability to create reports and conduct cost analyses
Excellent negotiation skills
Proficient computer skills, including Microsoft Office Suite (Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Excel)
Excellent verbal and written communication skills; able to negotiate, establish, and process contracts
Able to multitask, prioritize, and manage time efficiently
Accurate and precise attention to detail
Able to make decisions in a fast-paced environment
Up to 10% travel (domestic)
Good understanding of the organization's goals and objectives.
Strong interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills.
