NEW MEXICO ARMY NATIONAL GUARD

(YOU MUST BE A PERMANENT PRESENTLY EMPLOYED EXCEPTED FEDERAL TECHNICIAN IN THE NEW MEXICO ARMY NATIONAL GUARD TO BE ELIGIBLE FOR THIS POSITION)

THIS IS A TEMPORARY PROMOTION POSITION THAT WILL NOT EXCEED 30 SPETEMBER 2021

This National Guard position is for a MATERIALS HANDLER SUPERVISOR, Position Description Number D0731000 and is part of the NM USPFO Storage and Distribution Branch, National Guard.

Responsibilities

  • Planning: Plans weekly or monthly work schedules and sequence of operations. Establishes deadlines and priorities based on established general schedules, methods and policies. Determines skills, materials and equipment required to do the work. Participates in the initial planning of current and future work schedules and development of budget requests.

  • Work Direction: Assigns tasks to be performed. Explains work requirements, methods, and procedures. Instructs subordinates on new procedures or methods and provides assistance on difficult or new problem areas. Reviews work in progress or on completion. Makes adjustments as necessary to effectively and economically accomplish the work. Notes and investigates work related problems and independently implements corrective actions which can be taken without affecting work operations controlled by other supervisors. Assures that equipment and materiel is available when needed. Coordinates work with other units.

  • Administration: Recommends and participates in the selection of personnel to fill vacancies. Schedules and approves leave of subordinates. Sets performance requirements and makes formal and informal performance appraisals. Determines training needs of subordinates and arranges for its accomplishment. Counsels employees on problems. Adjusts informal complaints through discussions with employees and union representatives. Takes informal corrective action on conduct or performance problems. Initiates proposals for disciplinary action where needed. Works to achieve the objectives of Government-wide programs and policies, e.g., equal employment opportunity and labor management relations. Promotes the participation of subordinates in programs such as the suggestion program, cost reduction program, etc. Ensures that regulations governing safety and housekeeping are observed with appropriate protective clothing and equipment being utilized. Maintains production reports and records. Periodically reviews position descriptions of subordinates for currency and accuracy.-Performs the non supervisory work of the function as needed.

  • Implements regulatory safety requirements and ensures that subordinates wear appropriate safety equipment and follow pertinent safety precautions.

  • Prepares for and participates in various types of readiness evaluations, inspections, mobilization and command support exercises.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

  • NATIONAL GUARD MEMBERSHIP IS REQUIRED.

  • This is an excepted service position that requires membership in a compatible military assignment in the employing state's National Guard, required prior to the effective date of placement.

  • Selectee will be required to wear the military uniform.

  • Acceptance of an excepted service position constitutes concurrence with these requirements as a condition of employment.

  • Males born after 31 December 1959 must be registered for Selective Service.

  • Federal employment suitability as determined by a background investigation.

  • May be required to successfully complete a probationary period.

  • Participation in direct deposit is mandatory.

  • This temporary promotion will not exceed 30 September 2021.

Qualifications

Military Grades: Enlisted (E-5 to E-7)

Compatible Military Assignments: CMF: 91 or 92

GENERAL EXPERIENCE: Must have 36 months experience performing inventory and inspections to determine serviceability of stocked items. Experience in interpreting and applying written instructions, reference materials, publications, and manuals. Experience in setting up and rotating storage locations considering factors such as life expectancy, available space, product turnover, etc.

SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: In addition to the journeyman level knowledge, experience which demonstrates the ability to plan, direct, and organize work assignments for lower grade personnel. Experience which required the review of work requirements and establish priorities to meet deadlines. Experience that provided knowledge of various lines of work performed by this function. Experience which demonstrates the ability to supervise or the potential to perform such duties as evidenced by the ability to communicate knowledge of general supervisory concepts, and knowledge of shop processes. Experience in adapting existing equipment and techniques to new situations.

As an Back End Department Supervisor, this means: * Removing barriers, addressing inefficiencies, and enabling staff to delighting our customers. * Collaborating with front-end and back-end operations associates to ensure items are adequately stocked. * Monitoring use of store power equipment and coaching employees on safe behaviors and lifting techniques. The Back End Department Supervisor is primarily responsible for leading and enabling a team of associates to deliver the best possible customer experience in the store. This includes coaching and training associates, delegating, following-up on daily tasks, managing performance, and ensuring adequate department coverage. The Back End Department Supervisor impacts Lowe's mission daily by planning, scheduling, monitoring, and successfully implementing all non-selling operations in the back end of the store, facilitating the store's ability to provide a superior customer shopping experience and maximize sales and profitability. To be successful, the Back End Department Supervisor must collaborate and communicate with other Department Supervisors and Assistant Store Managers to determine the most effective methods for meeting service, operations, and safety objectives. The individual in this role must continuously drive efficiencies and be able to teach others the skills needed to maintain effective store operations. It is important that this associate communicate upward to keep management informed of concerns, issues, recognitions, and morale. The Back End Department Supervisor helps keep our store safe by conducting safety walks, reporting hazards, training and monitoring staff, and understanding all safety and lifting requirements. In addition to the responsibilities summarized above, individuals in this role may occasionally open or close the store or serve as manager-on-duty (MOD). Travel Requirements: This role does not require regular travel; however, this role may need to travel on occasion to meetings, trainings, or to support neighboring stores. What We're Looking For * Hourly Full Time: Generally scheduled 39 to 40 hours; more hours may be required based on the needs of the store. * Requires morning, afternoon and evening availability any day of the week. * Physical ability to perform tasks that may require prolonged standing, sitting, and other activities necessary to perform job duties. * Minimally must be able to lift 25 pounds without assistance; may lift over 25 pounds with or without assistance. What You Need To Succeed Minimum Qualifications * High School Diploma or equivalent and 3 years of experience in a retail environment OR 5 years of experience in a retail environment. * Experience providing direction or supervision to teams (with or without direct report responsibility). * Experience supporting or participating in the process of training, mentoring and developing associates. * Experience working cross-functionally. * Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office. Preferred Qualifications * Experience supporting front-end or back-end operations in a retail environment. * Experience in customer service role. * Experience in a leadership role with direct report responsibility. * Experience working in the home improvement retail sector. * Experience working in a fast paced, dynamic retail environment. * Experience in key carrying role with manager-on-duty responsibilities. * Experience using store computer systems (including but not limited to: Project Tool, Genesis, Sterling, M2O, Thin Client, etc.).
