Duties

Laboring

Works closely with Interior Designer, personnel from Engineering Service, and personnel from Contract Service. Involves lifting and moving very heavy furniture, equipment, and supplies to support the Interior Designer. Performs duties that continually involve extremely heavy physical effort. Routinely lifts and carry objects weighing over 50 pounds with little/no assistance, required to occasionally lift and carry heavy objects weighing up to 100 pounds with assistance. The work requires the use of a pallet jack, Cushman electric carts and motor vehicles on a regular basis. Works and collaborates with interior designers on proper furnishings that meet infection control requirements, standardized goals, as well as provide well-coordinated furniture compatible with floors, walls, and patient needs.

Reads, understands, and apply instructions contained in various manuals and Interior Design layouts; also adjust the layout and work site to effectively and safely use furnishings daily. May perform interior repairs, surface preparation and touchup painting of surfaces as needed. Touchup materials include paint, varnish, lacquer, shellac, epoxy resin, plaster and Teflon. Surfaces on which touchup materials are applied to wood, metal, glass, synthetic, concrete and other surfaces. Touch up work is done with brushes, rollers, spray guns, and other related methods and techniques. Maintains the aesthetic appearance of interiors in all buildings, and recommends replacement of unserviceable furnishings as the need arises.

Motor Vehicle Operator

Operates one or more vehicles (based on availability) including pickup trucks, panel trucks, flatbed trucks, and cab pickup trucks which will have an approximate weight up to 4,500 kilograms (10,000 pounds). Loads and unloads the vehicles by hand, sometimes receiving help from other workers. Ensures the furniture is protected from weather and that is properly distributed and secured to prevent damage or loss during transit. Is responsible for making certain that any furniture being hauled does not exceed the maximum weight allowable for the vehicle being driven.

Material Handler

Inventories the stock of furniture in the designated storage areas, identifies component shortages for replenishment orders, confirms receipt of orders, identifies discrepancies including improper items received, shortage of items delivered, wrong products, damage to shipment, etc. Follows general instructions but independently completes shipping and receiving documents to insure accuracy of furniture and quantities. Uses automated equipment such as optical readers and scanners, as well as computers to develop and maintain an inventory database and fill item requisitions. Is skilled in stacking, moving, and arranging items on pallets and must consider height, weight, and special handling requirements. Uses pallet measuring gauges and automated devices to insure proper height, weight, and other load and storage requirements are met, and damage during both storage and transit are prevented. Operates the pallet jack to lift, load, move, transport, and stack goods and materials contained on pallets, skids, crates, or boxes. Organizes, arranges, and removes stock in storage areas in accordance with established procedures to prevent damage, deterioration, and loss.

Other duties and responsibilities include:

  • Receives, stores and ships bin and bulk supplies, materials and equipment;

  • Prepares shipping and inventory documents for manual or automated inventory systems;

  • Selects specific storage locations within framework of general warehousing plan;

  • Rotates stock, check for outdated materials and maintains the appropriate safeguards and temperature controls;

  • Handles delivering and warehousing materials including hazardous, flammable and temperature sensitive products;

  • Participates in conducting inventory of stock on hand and communicates discrepancies;

  • Ensures products and shelving are marked with corresponding identification numbers;

  • Load and unload shipments from trucks and other material conveyances;

  • Makes off-site deliveries in motor vehicles typically with a gross weight of less than 4500 pounds;

  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Work Schedule: Monday thru Friday, 7:00am - 3:30pm (May vary based on the needs of the service)

Minimum Requirement: Experience includes: performing warehouse work involving receiving, storing, selecting and shipping of general or specialized bulk materials and equipment; assisting in developing plans for storage and arrangement of stock; coordinating incoming and outgoing shipments and placement of materials; uses own initiative to consolidate materials, provide maximum space utilization and protection of materials.

Physical Requirements: Work involves considerable walking, pushing and pulling a variety of carts and materials handling equipment; offloading and loading trucks, lifting products on and off shelves, handling boxes frequently weighing over 40 pounds; handles equipment, furniture and materials of an awkward and heavier nature in excess of 100 pounds (typically using specialized equipment and/or assistance of co-workers). Greater physical effort may be required on projects involving the movement of large quantities of products over an extended period including turn-ins, large shipments and deliveries. While operating vehicles, may be required to exert a greater level of physical exertion while backing and turning trucks, operating forklifts, or hand trucks on uneven terrains and uncertain conditions.

Working Conditions require working in storage buildings, pods, trailers, vehicles and warehouses that may be hot, cold, drafty and poor lighting; work outdoors, on docks, making deliveries in all types of weather conditions during all seasons; hazardous materials may be encountered in daily work activities; will be subject to the possibility of trips, falls, scrapes, cuts, bruises, or injury from the use of equipment; may be subject to conditions that could result in serious accidents; personal protective equipment may be required.
