Materials Handler I

Sparton (SPA) is a publicly traded leading contract design and manufacturing company with a specialization in electronic and electro-mechanical assemblies. Our customers include, Military, Medical, Biotechnology and Aerospace companies that are highly regulated with specialized needs.

Basic Purpose of Position: Perform a variety of activities related to: shipping, receiving, and cycle count and stockroom activities as assigned. May perform clerical and routine administrative duties in support of assigned function.

Primary or Major Responsibilities:

  • Will be responsible for some or all of the following: receiving, storing, routing, issuing, and shipping of materials and supplies.

  • In receiving area- Communicate with inbound carriers to rectify damages and shortages. Will maintain liaison with purchasing, planning, production, and other departments as required in the receipt, issuance and shipment of all products.

  • In the bulk warehouse and receiving area- May operate forklift, tier lift truck, and/or hand truck. May also load/unload trucks.

  • In kit pull area Supply, maintain and verify information against various records and compile reports. May also perform root cause analysis.

  • In cycle count area- Prepare periodic, special, or perpetual inventory of stock.

  • In stock window area- Requisition articles to fill incoming orders, and cut stock to size to fill order.

  • In the shipping area- Responsible for packing and shipping finished goods.

  • Will be required to use computers and other job related computer equipment. May also maintain machines and equipment used in the assigned function.

  • Able to read and then work from written processes and instructions

  • Initiate and maintain accurate paperwork and records as required by job

  • Responsible for daily cleanup of all assigned work areas.

  • May interact with multiple computer programs to enter/extract data.

  • All other duties as assigned.


Ensure that all assignments are performed in compliance with all applicable Federal, State, Provincial and Company safety and health regulations, and where applicable, proper personal protective equipment is utilized. Forklift operators must successfully complete a forklift safety program and obtain certification.

Minimum Requirements:

  • High school graduate or equivalent.

  • General work order knowledge will be preferred.

  • Personal computer skills.

  • Ability to interpret instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

  • Ability to add and subtract, multiply and divide numbers using calculators and to measure using gauges, rulers, and scales.

  • Must be able to lift 30 lbs-50lbs. and be able to climb/use ladders.

  • Demonstrate attention to detail.

  • Must comply with ESD Precautions Standards as required by facility.

  • It is understood that certain minimum requirements are not tested for but monitored for competent capability during the employee's indoctrination period.

Successful candidates will be placed on an eligibility list which will be used to fill current and future vacancies. The list may be retained for up to two (2) years. The US&R Hazardous Materials Specialist/Manager recruitment is only open to current OCFA Career Operations Personnel that are within good standing in OCFA's HMRT Program either as a full-time or part-time member. The Hazardous Materials Specialist is responsible for performing various hazardous materials functions for the task force during incident operations. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS The position requires participation in rigorous physical and mentally challenging base camp and field operations, encompassing multiple disciplines of the HazMat functions in extremely varied and potentially hazardous working conditions. Hazardous Materials Specialist require the ability to provide both verbal and written interaction with all Sections of the US&R Task Force, including local, state and federal officials. The position also requires working in disaster zones, in adverse weather conditions, hazardous atmospheres and flight in military or civilian aircraft (fixed and rotary). As a Member of the US&R Task Force you will be asked to represent the local, state and federal government, under extremely diverse conditions. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Minimum requirements for US&R Hazardous Materials Specialist (pre-appointment): * Participation in the OCFA "WEFIT" program * Have a basic knowledge of US&R and GPS operations * Demonstrate the ability to follow orders and personnel management skills * Must be able to communicate effectively both orally and in writing * Have the ability to be flexible, resolve conflicts, and solve problems * Possess basic working knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel * Be willing to work and live in poor conditions for extended periods of time * Follow the Federal "Code of Conduct" for US&R Task Forces * One (1) year as Certified Hazardous Material Technician Position Requirement (post selection): * Must maintain a basic knowledge of the use of specialized Task Force Hazardous Materials Equipment * Meet and maintain the qualifications for the Hazardous Materials Specialist per the FEMA Position Description * Completion of FEMA classes IS100, IS200, IS700, IS800 and FEMA Orientation class * Completion of GPS operational, WMD Enhanced OPS course * Maintain and respond by timely communication with Task Force and Section administration through email and phone * Successfully complete Confined Space Rescue Technician class * Complete ICS 300 (Manager) * Complete all Technical Rescue Skill Set as defined in Appendix A of position description SUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATION Please submit a memo of interest and a brief resume outlining your qualifications by 1700 on December 6, 2018.
