Responsibilities

As a MATERIALS HANDLER, WG-6907-5/6, duties include:

  • Receives and processes notice to stock parts and equipment. Assures incoming materiel matches that of the accompanying documentation. Examines materiel for shortages, overages and obvious damage and coordinates any discrepancies with the Cargo Movement Element.

  • Stores all in-warehouse supply and equipment items. Provides secure storage and handling of classified and sensitive items. Provides proper storage and handling of Electrostatic Discharge Items (ESD) in accordance with applicable technical orders and publications. Determines within the general warehousing plan how to arrange stock within the storage area. Stores items for convenience of handling and ease of movement. Assures stored items are protected from damage, deterioration, and pilferage. Schedules and maintains an aggressive surveillance inspection program for items in central storage to assure that all assets are ready for issue. Takes necessary action to control deterioration and/or corrosion of items in storage. Assures required tags, labels, and markings are affixed to property to reflect identity, status, and condition. Makes sure that technical data is retained when retagging items. Initiates inputs to add or delete warehouse locations on item records.

  • Conducts periodic validation of warehouse locations. Responsible for the inventory and proper accounting of all in-warehouse assets. Performs special inventories as required.

  • Selects items to be issued and/or shipped and transfers them to the Cargo Movement Element for subsequent delivery/shipment. Issues oldest items first when dated item control applies. Assures items requiring special handling (i.e., classified) are receipted for by authorized individuals.

  • Assists in formulating policies and procedures to ensure proper management, security, and control of all supplies and equipment in storage.

  • Manages unserviceable holding area. Ensures disposition is received in a timely manner. Monitors Material Deficiency Reports (MDR) and Quality Deficiency Reports (QDR) pending disposition. Process turn-ins and Coordinates with Quality Assurance for disposition instructions.

  • Trains all supply personnel requiring an inspector's stamp or those performing inspector duties, by signature. Some training may be accomplished during drill status.

  • Assists in providing bench stock support to customer organizations.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

NATIONAL GUARD MEMBERSHIP IS REQUIRED: This is a Title 32 excepted service position that requires membership in a compatible military assignment in the National Guard. Selectee will be required to wear the military uniform. Acceptance of an excepted service position constitutes concurrence with these requirements as a condition of employment. Applicants who are not currently a member of the National Guard must be eligible for immediate membership and employment in the National Guard in the military grade listed in this announcement.

DEFINITION OF AREA(S) OF CONSIDERATION:

AREA 1: Current permanent and indefinite technicians of the Nebraska Army or Air National Guard; and current Title 5 employees of the Nebraska Military Department who are military members of the Nebraska National Guard.

AREA 2: All Drill Status/M-Day members and temporary technicians of the Nebraska Air or Army National Guard.

AREA 3: Current military service members who are willing and eligible to become members of the Nebraska Air or Army National Guard.

AREA 4: All qualified candidates eligible and willing to become a member of the Nebraska National Air or Army National Guard prior to the effective date of hire.

MILITARY REQUIREMENTS:

Compatible military grade and assignment required prior to the effective date of placement. This is an excepted service position that requires membership in a compatible military assignment in the Nebraska Air National Guard. Applicants who are not currently a member of the National Guard must be eligible for immediate membership. Military Grades: Maximum: E6; Minimum: E1; Military Grade inversion within the full time work forces is not permitted. The military grade of the full time supervisor must equal or exceed the military grade of the personnel supervised.

Compatible Military Assignments: 2SXXX

Individual does not have to be currently assigned to one of these career fields ot be considered for this position; however compatibility requirements must be met prior to appointment to the position. Selectee has 12 months to become qualified in a compatible military assignment.

GENERAL EXPERIENCE:

  • Experience or training which demonstrates the ability to compare item identification against receiving reports and issue request forms; skill in using hand trucks, dollies, and other equipment to move stock; ability to use hammers, pliers, and other hand tools; and to follow oral and written instructions.

SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE:

WG-05 - 6 months experience or training demonstrating the ability to store, organize and/or rotate a variety of bin and bulk supplies, materials, equipment, and commodities. Familiar with basic warehouse procedures. Experience in determining quantities of inventory items. Experience in following oral and written instructions.

WG-06 - 9 months experience or training in receiving, packaging, and preparation for shipment. Experience in compiling reports, overall warehouse planning, documentation requirements, and accepted warehousing methods, procedures and techniques. Experience in setting up and rotating storage locations considering factors such as life expectancy, available space, product turnover, etc.

The person in this position assists the drilling crew in order to obtain, report, and test soil and rock samples which are used for analysis in bridge foundation design and construction. Assist in the coordination, preparation, and completion of exploratory boring projects which includes clearing utilities, meeting with property owners, surveying, water level monitoring and closure of boreholes. Assist the Soil Mechanics Unit with cone penetration testing and data collection through use of the Cone Penetration Test (CPT) and by obtaining samples of undisturbed soil specimens for use in laboratory testing. Provide highway traffic control during drill rig mobilization on project sites. Perform preventative maintenance and minor repairs on equipment. Qualifications / Requirements REQUIREMENTS: No specific education, training, or experience is required for entry to this class. PREFERRED: Experience with Microsoft Office including Outlook. OTHER: Must have a valid driver's license or ability to provide independent authorized transportation. Must be available for overnight travel. Regular and reliable attendance is required.
