In order to teach or serve as a Materials Editor, applicants must present proof of the following requirements, and skills will be further assessed during a possible screening:

  • Follow all policies of the Language Section, the Administrative Unit, SLS, FSI, and DOS.

  • Follow the guidance provided in the FSI Language and Culture Instructor Guide.

  • Follow all administrative processes and procedures as detailed in the SLS Guide to FSI Administrative Procedures.

  • Work in a harmonious and professional manner with colleagues who represent cultures from around the world.

  • Collaborate to perform assigned tasks or execute single-handedly, the editing of English or the foreign language training materials, including but not limited to, language usage, readability, structure, organization, word choice, consistency, style, punctuation, and formatting.

  • Adhere to all copyright guidelines and restrictions, follow FSI and SLS procedures regarding copyright, and track compliance for assigned development project(s).

  • Collaborate, and content creators to establish processes and deadlines for the editing workflow.

  • Provide regular status updates on progress, and briefings on request for the content creators and others regarding progress, standards, or issues for discussion.


  • BA/BS, MA/MS, or Ph.D. in technical communication, writing/composition, or related field for the language to be edited.
  • A minimum of three (3) years editing experience.

Additional Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in desktop publishing, graphic design valued.

  • Experience with InDesign software valued.

  • Project management experience valued.

Read and evaluate intelligence products and ensure DoD tradecraft standards are met. Identify inconsistencies of thought, development, or organization. Confer with authors to recommend treatment of material. Perform reorganizations, cuts, or rewrites, as necessary and edit copy. </p><p><strong>Requirements</strong></p><p><strong>Basic Qualifications: </strong></p><ul> <li>2+ years of experience with technical editing in a government or private sector environment </li> <li>Experience with writing and editing project products per established government standards for DoD audiences, including proofreading drafts and final documents </li> <li>Experience with Microsoft Office, including using Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access, and Outlook </li> <li>Ability to proofread for grammar and punctuation with a high level of accuracy </li> <li>Ability to manage multiple publication projects and work effectively, independently, and efficiently in a diverse, fast-paced team environment</li> <li>Ability to work shift work</li> <li>HS diploma or GED and 8+ years of experience with writing or editing, AA or AS degree and 6+ years of experience with writing or editing, or BA or BS degree and 3+ years of experience with writing or editing</li> <li>Active TS/SCI clearance required; willingness to take a polygraph exam </li> </ul><p></p><p><strong>Additional Qualifications: </strong></p><ul> <li>Knowledge of DoD intelligence editing standards and styles </li> <li>Knowledge of Community Authorized Classification and Control Markings (CAPCO)</li> <li>Possession of excellent verbal and written communication skills</li> <li>Possession of excellent interpersonal skills</li> <li>TS/SCI clearance with a polygraph </li> <li>Active TS/SCI w/ CI poly </li> </ul> Global Dimensions Arlington VA
