Under the general supervision of the Business Service Officer II, the Materials and Stores Specialist (MSS) acts in a lead capacity over lower-level staff in the receipt, storage, delivery, and shipping of a volume of varied supplies requiring moderately complex storage in a redistribution or point-of-use warehouse or supply room.

Maintains accurate records, reports, and inventories of supply stock and its receipt/distribution. Processes supply requests from various sources and ensures prompt delivery of requested items. Maintains liaison with staff to ensure adequate supply levels are maintained and special needs are met. Receives various supply stock items and maintains the supply room, stocks shelves, and fills orders. After ensuring accuracy of received shipments, utilizes Business Acquisition System (BAS) and the FI$Cal financial-management system to document timely receipt of goods and facilitate vendor payment. Follows SAM specifications and regulations regarding material handling, inventory, and quality control.

Handles and safeguards sensitive and valuable materials (e.g., technology assets, furniture, disaster recovery kits, first aid supplies, personal protective equipment, confidential destruction bins, etc.) to provide effective customer service for units to achieve their program objectives and mission requirements by assuring the needed supplies are provided to the support area in a timely manner.

Under Government Code 14200, this position may be eligible for full or part-time telework for eligible candidates residing in California.
