Job Description:

Position Overview:

The Material Handling Specialist is responsible for inventory control, loading and unloading trucks, picking and staging materials, and assisting our customers with their orders, palletizing freight and utilizing software to ship customer orders.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Report and/or correct safety issues. Maintain proper safety conditions of equipment and surroundings.

  • Picking orders, preparing for shipment, packaging and staging while maintain quality of service.

  • Receiving inbound freight from vendors, staging, inspecting, counting and storing.

  • Loading and staging outbound freight on our vehicles and 3rd party carriers.

  • Keeping, counting and staging inventory for finished goods and returned items, replenishing raw materials according to production needs and staging product in identified locations.

  • Perform quality inspections/ counts on materials and finished product, quality checks to include, codes, products, labels and weights of raw materials and finished goods.

  • Follow procedures for isolating hold product or defective material.

Essential Requirements:

  • One to two years of warehouse work experience.

  • Excellent customer service skills.

  • Basic reading and math skills.

  • Ability to use scanners, computers and WMS software. Solid organizational skills and attention to detail.

  • Ability to lift 50 pounds consistently.

  • Maintain and operate the following: forklift, reach, lifts and various equipment as required to OSHA standards.

VIEW JOBS 2/1/2020 12:00:00 AM 2020-05-01T00:00 Major Functions The County of Volusia is seeking an Environmental Specialist II for the Mosquito Control Division. This position is located in New Smyrna Beach, Florida, and will be responsible for performing complex field sampling and laboratory work and analysis; administration of specific projects and educational programs, as well as professional work coordinating and managing division's environmental activities. Illustrative Duties (NOTE: These are intended only as illustrations of the various types of work performed. The omission of specific duties does not exclude them from the position if the work is similar, related, or a logical assignment to the position.) * Schedules, supervises and evaluates field personnel, students, etc. as required. * Manages projects, studies or programs dealing with mosquito control, chemical efficacy, and other programs, as required. Completes reporting requirements associated with programs, studies, grants, etc. * Collaborates with aerial staff for surveillance of tidal wetlands and other expansive mosquito production sites including deployment of helicopter(s) and selection of control formulations. * Responsible for protocol and oversight of calibration and characterization of aerial application equipment as well as truck-based application equipment. * Coordinates and actively participates in lab activities including deployment of traps, and identification and maintenance of collections. * Provides public assistance and information through citizen contact. * Organizes and supervises mosquito virus monitoring programs, and special studies (insecticide resistance, virus risk, efficacy of applications, etc.). * Identify, plan and supervise source reduction projects. * Makes presentations at public meetings, professional meetings, and schools. * Assists in the initiation and performance of applied research projects and serves as a liaison to university and other professional research entities. * Assists in the training and continuing education of personnel with respect to state law, current surveillance and control practices, proper handling of insecticides and record keeping and compliance with all Federal, State and local laws and regulations pertaining to mosquito, and plant control. * May be assigned to other county locations based upon operational needs. * Attends work on a regular and consistent basis. * Must adhere to Federal, State, County and Local ordinances. * Responds to emergency situations. * Performs other duties as assigned. Minimum Requirements Three (3) years as an Environmental Specialist I with the County; or Bachelor of Science (B.S.) degree in Biology, Environmental Science, Entomology or related field and three (3) years experience in mosquito control. A comparable amount of education, training, or experience may be substituted for the minimum qualifications. Must obtain and maintain within eight (8) weeks of appointment the Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services (FLDACS): * Core Exam * Public Health Pest Control (category exam) * Aquatic Pest Control (category exam) * Natural Areas Weed Management (category exam) * Must possess and maintain a valid Florida driver's license. Knowledge, Skills & Abilities * Demonstrated knowledge of and familiarity with all Federal, State and local laws associated with mosquito control including but not limited to Chapter 388, F.S. * Demonstrated knowledge of the practices and implementation of Integrated Mosquito Management, mosquito biology, control, and surveillance methods. * Demonstrated knowledge of mosquito control strategies, including source reduction, stormwater/drainage, control formulations and application, aerial operations, and mosquito habitats and species. * Skilled in performing perform complex chemical and biological laboratory work. * Skilled in identifying and classifying biological specimens of mosquitoes. * Skilled in research, design, and creation of educational materials, displays, and signage. * Ability to coordinate aerial surveillance of tidal wetlands and mosquito production sites. * Ability to participate in lab activities including deployment of traps and identification of collections. * Ability to lead virus response, assess the situation and plan and schedule resources to appropriately respond and coordinate with Dept of Health as required. * Ability to plan, develop and implement outreach and educational programs pertaining to the local environment, integrated mosquito management, and mosquito-borne virus and disease. * Ability to supervise subordinate personnel, students, volunteers, etc., as required. * Ability to meet and speak effectively with the general public, and to train direct reports and other personnel. * Ability to make presentations at public meetings, schools, and professional meetings. * Ability to work in the field under harsh conditions including but not limited to extreme heat, rain and flooding conditions. * Ability to fly as a passenger in a helicopter. * Ability to work around insecticides and herbicides and calibrate application equipment. * Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing. * Ability to work under stressful conditions. * Ability to interact effectively with others. * Must be able to relocate to other county locations based upon operational needs. ADA Requirements: Physical Demands: Exerting 50 to 100 pounds of force occasionally. Ability to lift and carry objects up to 40 pounds. Ability to traverse uneven and/or wet ground. May be exposed to saltwater, chemicals, insects, toxic plants, snakes, salt air, mud, dust, brackish water, odors and toxic fumes. Medical monitoring may be required. Mental Demands: Ability to read and comprehend technical and professional journals and manuals, reports, blueprints, legal documents. Ability to write clearly and concisely memos, letters, reports. Ability to speak publicly and extemporaneously on technical subjects. Ability to perform basic mathematical functions. Ability to analyze data and develop conclusions.
