Material Damage Total Loss Specialist

POSITION OVERVIEW

The Material Damage Total Loss Specialist investigates, adjusts, and settles casualty auto total losses. This position determines coverage and damages; and exercises independent discretion and judgment on claim handling.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

• Handles claims, from the desk, that involve total losses

• Knowledge of title and processing requirements for the disposal of salvage vehicles

• Establishes contact with policyholders and claimants regarding total loss claims

• Interprets coverage, negotiates settlements, and processes loss payments

• Handles telephone inquiries on claim status regarding total losses

• Sets and maintains adequate reserves on claim files

• Obtains and reviews reports, statements, records, and related materials as necessary

• Handles salvage within guidelines and compliance of state requirements

• Establishes contact with lienholder to obtain letters of guarantee, ownership information, and payoff

• Uses independent discretion/judgment and sound decision-making in the handling of total loss claims

• Work evenings, nights, and/or weekends as necessary

• Performs other duties as assigned

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

Required

• Associate degree or equivalent experience
• 2+ years of Total Loss experience

Preferred or Specialized

• Bachelor's Degree preferred

• Prior P&C claim experience preferred

CERTIFICATIONS & LICENSES

• Associate in Claims (AIC), Associate in Management (AIM), or Chartered Property Casualty Underwriter (CPCU) designation preferred
