Position Summary

Appraises material damage claims and total losses as received by assignment. Negotiates settlement of claims and disposes of salvage.

Duties and Responsibilities

Handles all material damage claims, which may include drive-in assignments, as assigned. Performs desk review of repair estimates when required.Makes arrangements with repair shops, independent appraisers, Policyholders or claimants to inspect vehicles.

Photographs damaged areas and writes estimates on all claims when necessary. Determines rental needs and controls costs according to company guidelines.Negotiates with repair shops on cost of repairs. Establishes value and settles total losses.

Handles disposal of salvage within authority.Distinguishes cause of damage for appropriate policy coverage. Evaluates and settles total losses when necessary.Issues settlement checks and keeps appropriate records.Monitors and supports Direct Repair Program (DRP) when required.Establishes rapport with Agents and claims adjusters.Responds to Policyholders and claimants as directed regarding service issues or complaints.Attends appropriate training sessions.At the request of Underwriting, evaluates antique and classic cars for coverage value.

Qualifications

High school diploma, or GED, required. Completion of General Insurance program preferred.

Position requires the incumbent to serve on the Catastrophe Team, which may include travel on short notice to other locations for periods in excess of two consecutive weeks. Willingness to obtain and maintain any required licenses. Valid driver's license and good driving record preferred.

If primary duties will be estimate review and/or the adjusting of direct repair claims: Five years of body shop estimate writing, insurance estimate writing, or insurance claims adjusting experience required. If primary duty will be handling total loss settlements:

Five years of automotive repair, automotive sales, material damage adjusting, or other automotive-related experience, required. Bachelor's degree preferred.

These positions will operate street sweepers, backhoes, heavy front-end loaders and large motor graders in leveling ground surfaces and street/construction repair. Services and makes minor repairs and adjustments on equipment. Operates heavy and light equipment in snow removal and assists with special events, and other emergency tasks, including some nights and weekends, as needed. Operates dump truck, including automatic and manual transmission. Maintains accurate log sheets, checklists, and pre-trip sheets. Class B CDL with Tanker requirements are required within 3 months of hire. High school diploma or general education degree (GED) and two to three years related experience and/or training in trades area assigned; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Examples of Duties SUMMARY Performs skilled work in the maintenance of facilities and/or equipment and in the operation of motorized equipment. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES may include the following depending on area of assignment. Other duties may be assigned. Operates tractor trailer or other heavy construction equipment Operates street sweeper, excavator, bulldozer, backhoe, heavy front-end loader, crane and chipper, large motor grader in leveling ground surfaces and street/construction repair Services and makes minor repairs and adjustments on equipment When not operating heavy equipment, operates lighter equipment or trains other operators Operates heavy and light equipment in snow removal Operates truck, including automatic and manual transmission Inspects equipment for proper safety and ensures that truck is equipped with all necessary equipment for the day's assignment May perform inspection of playgrounds and associated equipment Maintains accurate log sheets, checklists and pre-trip sheets Performs major and minor cleaning work on storm drain systems Repairs catch basin boxes with concrete and brick and/or blocks Performs work in the resurfacing of concrete walkways (floor polishing) in city buildings. Performs some major and all minor motor repairs and replacement work such as: cleaning and replacing spark plugs, installing radiator hose, and packing water pumps; refacing valves and seats, grinding, assembling, and adjusting them; installing rings and bearings and making proper adjustments; and overhauling/repairing carburetors and clutches, brakes, ignition and fuel systems, transmissions, differentials, front and rear axle assemblies, hydraulic system components including pumps and cylinders; and tuning motors Makes repairs and renovations to fields and grounds including mowing, mulching, aeration, grading, seeding, and sodding Assists with special events, snow removal and other emergency tasks, including some nights and weekends, as needed May be responsible for fabrication, maintenance, and installation of traffic control, pavement markings and barricade signage according to City guidelines and uniformity. May require some experience and knowledge of computer graphic software and equipment used for fabrication and installation of signs and markings Knowledge of pertinent rules and regulations, guidelines, safety orders, departmental operating procedures and safety regulations sufficient to insure that work is performed in compliance with applicable law. Enforces sound safety and housekeeping practices. Follows safety rules/procedures; avoid known hazards in the work environment. Reviews safety procedures before beginning each job with known hazards.
