Position Summary

Appraises material damage claims and total losses as received by assignment. Negotiates settlement of claims and disposes of salvage within authority.

  • Candidates with above minimum qualifications may be considered for a Material Damage Inside Adjuster II position. Number of years and scope of experience determine level.

Duties and Responsibilities

Handles all material damage claims, which may include drive-in assignments, as assigned. Performs desk review of repair estimates when required.

Makes arrangements with repair shops, independent appraisers, Policyholders or claimants to inspect vehicles. Photographs damaged areas and writes estimates on all claims when necessary. Determines rental needs and controls costs according to company guidelines.

Negotiates with repair shops on cost of repairs. Establishes value and settles total losses. Handles disposal of salvage within authority.

Distinguishes cause of damage for appropriate policy coverage. Evaluates and settles total losses when necessary. Issues settlement checks and keeps appropriate records.

Monitors and supports Direct Repair Program (DRP) when required.

Establishes rapport with Agents and claims adjusters. Responds to Policyholders and claimants as directed regarding service issues or complaints.

Attends appropriate training sessions. At the request of Underwriting, evaluates antique and classic cars for coverage value.

Qualifications

High school diploma, or GED, required. Two years of experience in body shop or insurance claims adjusting OR completion of ERIE's Smart Start Program, required.

Estimate writing experience preferred. Completion of General Insurance program preferred. Position requires the incumbent to serve on the catastrophe duty, which may include travel on short notice to other locations for periods in excess of two consecutive weeks.

Willingness to obtain and maintain required licenses. Valid driver's license and good driving record preferred.

Position Summary Exercises independent discretion or judgment in performing desk review of repair estimates and telephonically handling moderately complex residential and commercial property claims within designated level of authority. * The successful candidate will reside in the Allentown/Bethlehem Claims Office footprint * The successful candidate will need to be licensed in West Virginia, North Carolina and Kentucky. * Preference is to work in in the Allentown/Bethlehem Claims Office, however consideration may be given to work from home. Duties and Responsibilities Contacts Policyholders regarding property claims within level of authority. Conducts investigations, interviews insureds and witnesses, performs desk reviews of damage using third party repair estimates as needed and prepares estimates as required. Evaluates and makes recommendations regarding coverage of claims. Handles property claims within designated authority. Sets and maintains adequate reserves. Obtains and reviews reports, statements, records and related materials as required. Evaluates information to determine coverage and total value of claim. Determines payments and issues checks or declines payment as required. Documents claim files and submits final report to file for closure. Identifies subrogation situations and initiates appropriate action. Effectively controls the use, work product and expenses of outside vendors. Handles property claims involving questions of coverage. Negotiates claim with plaintiff attorneys when necessary. Interacts with Agents and district sales managers on matters of mutual concern. Develops and applies a working knowledge of estimating practices and procedures relating to the adjustment of property claims. Attends industry-related training programs and attends other training sessions to stay current on policy changes, interpretation or new legislation. Participates on Catastrophe Team when required. Willingness to pursue and complete formal property training within two years of accepting position, required. Successful completion of AIC 33 and AIC 35 preferred. Position requires incumbent to serve on Catastrophe Team, which may include travel on short notice to other locations for periods in excess of two consecutive weeks.
