SUMMARY

Material Coordinator duties include but are not limited to material handler, forklift driver, cycle counter, and shipping/receiving clerk. This position is broken out into five (5) different levels of responsibility based on duties assigned. In general, the position will operate a forklift to move, locate, relocate, stock/restock as well as check, count, organize, incoming parts, materials and supplies to verify items and quantities received, and note damaged or defective items following standard procedures. Support production by loading and unloading material, supply various work cells with parts and product, disposition, consume, and ensure that material is properly labeled. This position can receive, prepare, ship, store, and issue materials, equipment, and other items from stockroom, warehouse, or parts yard while adhering to Astec's standards for safety, quality, productivity and accuracy.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (to include but not limited to)

Material Handling/Forklift Driver

  • Operate any material handling equipment following established safety guidelines

  • Assign all incoming and outgoing product with work order numbers, disposition inventory tracking software when shipping/receiving/picking and transfer organized material to designated staging area

  • Loads and unloads material in a safe fashion, verifies that incoming and outgoing material is free from damage.

  • Supply all work cells with materials and proactively anticipates needs

  • Process and assist all inbound/outbound, stocking, picking, and additional warehouse functions

  • Loading and unloading truck shipments and stocking the warehouse shelves

Receiving/Cycle Counter

  • Sort, count, package, label, and unpack inventory received

  • Ensure correct parts and materials are delivered to production cells in a timely, organized and safe manner to facilitate continuous manufacturing operations

  • Assists in maintaining the overall organization, security and safety of the warehouse

  • Break down and sort mixed product pallets for appropriate warehouse stocking

  • Prepare receiving bay area for in-bound shipments. Taking care to keep the receiving bay area clean, orderly, and clear of empty cartons, pallets, or debris

  • Receive and inspect incoming materials to determine if material meets specification on purchase orders, receive acceptable or reject damaged items, record actual quantities received, label items, and transport items to proper areas for distribution and storage

  • Communicate with procurement or manufacturing inventory teams to rectify damages, errors, defects, loss, or shortages

  • Process and assist all inbound/outbound, stocking, picking, and additional warehouse functions including inventory cycle counts and physical inventories as directed

  • Process return merchandise authorizations (RMAs), and dealer returns, in accordance with warehouse expectations

Shipping

  • Prepare orders for shipment using accepted packaging guidelines in accordance with the pick ticket, customer freight requirements, using inventory control software, and package for shipping

  • Count, weigh or measure items for outgoing shipments and/or provide shipping quotes

  • Reconcile shipping documents and make corrections as necessary to reflect accurate information. (i.e., domestic/international bills of lading, invoices, orders, pick lists and other documents for the movement, receipt, or sale of materials)

  • Load materials onto pallets to optimize space and best utilize freight space, pack and secure outgoing shipments with shrink wrap to protect from damage

  • Ship using all procurement approved carriers (FedEx, UPS, DHL, etc.)

  • Prepare and stage items for shipment by truck, UPS, and FedEx, ship and receive materials, verify and keep records on outgoing shipments and create bills of lading (BOLs) for shipments

  • Monitor and maintain product and supply inventory levels in work area, notify the supervisor when materials get to the restocking point, and stock shelves in the warehouse

Education

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED)

  • Interpersonal written and verbal communication and comprehension skills when interfacing continuously with Production employees, Lead/Supervisors, and Service and Supply Chain departments

OTHER REQUIREMENTS

  • Eighteen (18) years of age or older

  • Willingness to work from 10:00 am until 7:30 pm M-F if Split Shift

  • Willingness to work additional hours when required

  • Knowledge of and ability to use and influence organization's policies, standards and procedures guiding manufacturing processes

  • Knowledge of strategies and tools for controlling and optimizing the factors that lie between the purchase of raw materials and delivery of finished products

  • Knowledge of processes, tools and operational considerations for effective and efficient movement of goods and materials throughout the manufacturing cycle

  • Knowledge of day-to-day operations of a manufacturing plant or facility

  • Valid driver's license and ability to safely operate a motor vehicle and drive between plant locations and local destinations multiple times daily if required

  • Required to carry $100,000/$300,000 liability insurance coverage on any personal vehicle used for company business. Mileage reimbursed through expense reports submitted to the Company's accounting department.

PREFERENCES

  • Overhead and jib crane operation experience

Levels of the Material Coordinator Position

Levels will be determined based on education, experience and equivalents.

  • Material Coordinator I

This is the training/entry level. The employee works in a learning capacity performing a range of receiving, material handling, and shipping duties while receiving close supervision by supervisor and/or MC4/5.

  • Two (2) years' experience working with high-volume levels similar to 500+ work orders, 500+ purchase order lines, and/or 100+ sales order lines daily

  • One (1) year of experience or ability to learn how to read and interpret bills of material (BOM's) and engineering drawings

  • One (1) year of experience in product distribution and warehousing with logistics and supply chain management experience, exposure to quality control or parts management at a production facility

  • One (1) year of forklift operation experience

  • Material Coordinator II

This is beginning level. The employee works in a learning capacity performing a range of receiving, material handling, shipping, and cycle count duties while receiving close supervision by supervisor and/or MC4/5.

  • Minimum two (2) years' experience using inventory tracking software, product distribution, reading and interpreting bills of material (BOM's) and engineering drawings, warehousing logistics and/or supply chain management at a production facility

  • One (1) year of forklift operation experience

  • Material Coordinator III

This is intermediate level. The employee works in a developing capacity with increased responsibility for performing a range of receiving, material handling, shipping, and cycle count duties while receiving limited supervision.

  • Minimum four (4) years' experience using inventory tracking software, product distribution, reading and interpreting bills of material (BOM's) and blueprint drawings, warehousing logistics and/or supply chain management at a production facility.

  • Material Coordinator IV

This is experienced level. The employee performs a full range of duties including but not limited to receiving, material handling, shipping, cycle count and inventory control duties troubleshooting problems, and using considerable independent judgment to interpret and apply work guidelines with considerable latitude to specific situations. MC4 may independently make decisions and has responsibility to mentor and train the lower level material coordinator positions and provide supervision on various duties.

  • Minimum seven (7) years' experience using inventory tracking software, product distribution, reading and interpreting bills of material (BOM's) and blueprint drawings, warehousing logistics and/or supply chain management at a production facility.

  • Material Coordinator V

This is senior experienced level. The employee performs a full range of duties including but not limited to receiving, material handling, shipping, cycle count, and inventory control duties troubleshooting problems, and using independent judgment to interpret and apply work guidelines with considerable latitude to specific situations. MC5 may independently make decisions in the absence of a Supervisor or Lead and has responsibility to mentor and train the lower level material coordinator positions and provide supervision on various duties.

Minimum 10 years' experience using inventory tracking software, product distribution, reading and interpreting bills of material (BOM's) and blueprint drawings, warehousing logistics and/or supply chain management at a production facility.
