Position Overview

The Master's Peer Mentor Program (MP2) is designed to connect new students with current Master's students to facilitate the transition to graduate life at Stevens Institute of Technology. Students who participate in this program will become better equipped to build more meaningful connections and benefit from essential peer-to-peer interaction in and out of the classroom experience. MP2 is not a substitute for clinical counseling, medical services, or academic advising. Peer mentors will be made aware of university resources and instructed to report concerns to the appropriate resources. Graduate Student Life acknowledges that the Peer Mentor is a student first and will work with the mentor to ensure their success. Peer Mentors are responsible for working alongside the Assistant Director to promote and demonstrate a genuine interest in the positive experience of graduate students with Graduate Student Life.

Areas of Responsibility

  • Complete & maintain digital mentor profile

  • Students may be matched with 2-3 mentees.

  • Continuous training throughout the program through the program software

  • Attend initial "Meet & Greet" event for mentors and mentees hosted by Graduate Student Life.

  • Maintain mentoring relationship for one semester

  • Meet with Mentee at least once per month

  • Attend a Graduate Student Life event as a group activity

  • Maintain digital communications throughout the semester

  • Submit notes following each meeting.

  • Engage in feedback sessions for program improvements.

  • Other responsibilities as assigned.


  • Currently enrolled Master's students.

  • Minimum GPA of 3.0

  • No Student Code of Conduct/Academic Integrity violations

  • Ability to communicate professionally (written & oral)

  • Enthusiastic approach to new students and program engagement

  • Creativity and willingness to take an initiative

  • Strong organizational, prioritization, and time management skills

Dates of Service

  • Spring 2020 Semester


  • Peer mentors will be provided with a $200 stipend

SUMMARY The Service Management Scrum Master role supports the business and publishing applications to meet business needs. This role will help manage onboarding of teams across Wiley onto the standard Service Management model. This role is core to driving all new service entrants into the Application Maintenance and Support model. This role will lead the transitions from development to production readiness, service reviews with the business to establish SLAs and metrics, facilitate changes to SOWs, M&A activity as it relates to application support, as well as transformational changes to current business processes and training/communication to relevant stakeholders ensuring that the service is properly supported from day one and proper information is provided to the service teams to ensure that the business needs are met. The Scrum Master will manage project teams to onboard applications into standard operating model. This role will play an active role in clearing obstacles and ensuring that services transition from development into operations as efficiently and effectively as possible. RESPONSIBILITIES * Deliver all Service Transition Projects and Programs in line with recognized best practice methodology, (service level definition, governance, quality assurance, monitoring/instrumentation, issue resolution, reporting) * Responsible for the delivery of new applications, attained via M/A or native implementation, into the Application Support Group * Develop the best practices utilized by Service Transition & the larger delivery teams * Design, Develop and Utilize standard Production Readiness checklist for transitions * Deliver customer advocacy via exemplary Service Transition project delivery * Own the coordination of the wider transition team involving additional project management resource, internal technical resource, 3rd party suppliers, account team members and client stakeholders * Interface with 3rd party suppliers, involving agreement, planning, timelines and quality of deliverables * Produce detailed project plans to manage interdependencies & communicate with stakeholders with regards to onboarding applications through our service transition process * Adhere to relevant escalation processes to escalate resource issues, delayed project phases, missed deadlines and other planning issues * Define the budget as well as manage on a day to day basis the expenditure within the Service Transition, ensuring all costs are recorded against products and services delivered * Ensure products and services delivered within the Service Transition are within time and budget constraints and meet the required level of quality * Monitor the program/project ensuring issues are resolved in a timely manner and the appropriate corrective actions are implemented * Review the outcomes of the Service Transition Projects to determine any corrective actions that could be taken to improve future delivery in terms of cost, quality and customer satisfaction. Play back and drive these improvements with peer leadership team members to coordinate resourcing as needed. * Provide periodic readouts to the executive stakeholders of the health of our support transitioning practice and make active recommendations on how to improve our approach to onboarding services into operational readiness. * Performs Agile Team Leader, i.e. ScrumMaster responsibilities for the team, per the Agile project management methodology SCRUM. * Coordinator across projects when multiple teams are required to solve a single product development challenge * Drive backlog prioritization, and in line with the program roadmap, from inception to roll-out * Manage of risks/issues/impediments/integrations * Drive continuous improvement across the roadmap delivery and ways of working, driving towards Rapid, Reliable and Repeatable * Advocate for continuous improvement of best practices in agile project management, including agile at scale * Drive and manage transparency thru relevant JIRA dashboards and KPIs for continuous improvement - Communicator of project/team health and status * Provide clear communication to cross-functional agile team leads and program manager (RET), regarding project status, resource requirements, issues, and priorities.
