Womble Bond Dickinson (US) LLP seeks a highly qualified Staff Attorney to join its Mass Torts Practice Group in Raleigh, NC. This position will involve working in an active and dynamic practice that touches all aspects of litigation including discovery, depositions, motions practice, and trial. The successful candidate will be given autonomy to handle assigned cases while at the same time having access to the knowledge and experience of seasoned litigators.

Candidates with 1-5 years of civil litigation law firm experience are preferred. Successful candidates will possess strong written and oral advocacy skills and excellent interpersonal skills.

The ideal candidate is both a team player and a self-starter, seeking increasing levels of responsibility. The litigators in the Mass Torts Practice Group frequently collaborate to analyze and strategize how to handle each case. It is essential that the successful candidate have the skill, knowledge, and ability to conduct research and apply laws, court decisions, and rules of evidence and procedure in order to defend clients and reach a successful resolution of each matter. The successful candidate will be expected to work collaboratively and cooperatively with paralegals, legal practice assistants and staff.

Recent law school graduates with exceptionally strong research and writing skills and solid academic credentials will be considered. Insurance defense experience is a plus.

Candidate must be licensed in North Carolina, must be willing to take the next available NC bar exam or be eligible to seek admission without examination. Candidate must be willing to travel for court appearances and other proceedings as necessary.

This position will become the primary interface on a front-end basis with district attorneys, defense attorneys, family members, law enforcement, and the public for the purpose of preparing written correspondence or legal report documents and /or summarizing communications between outside parties and the OCME medicolegal professional staff. This position is responsible for the design, development, implementation and administration of an integrated document control and communications process for incoming and outgoing correspondence for the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner (OCME). This position works with other members of the OCME to assess the scope and breadth of the myriad requests for information or need for responses to multiple correspondents. This position works cohesively with Chief Medical Examiner, Deputy Chief Medical Examiner, Program Manager and forensic pathologists to develop and implement a document control process. S/he develops and maintains standardized report formats, where appropriate, but will be given considerable latitude in decision making and response generation. This position will also provide direction and supervision to other support staff. This position is also responsible for verifying the legality of the OCME policies and procedures and their implementation both internally and externally. This position serves as lead liaison between attorneys at DHHS, DPH, and the NC Attorney General Office.
