The OPIS Carbon Market Editor will be responsible for collecting and analyzing trade information to assess a daily pricing index for U.S. and International carbon markets. The position requires reporting on carbon market pricing and fundamentals as well as creating news alerts relevant to the carbon industry and clean air initiatives.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Accumulate spot market price transactions from industry participants via email, instant messaging and by phone. Verify the legitimacy of the transactions, and adhere to OPIS pricing methodology to create daily price assessments.

  • Create breaking and feature news alerts on carbon markets, clean energy and environmental sustainability initiatives.

  • Research and report on new developments in global carbon policies and programs.

  • Contribute to social media content, blog postings, industry analysis, and publish OPIS reports.

  • Participate in team staff meetings.

  • Network and source build in the U.S. and International carbon industries.

  • Engage in pricing methodology creation.

Qualifications:

  • Undergraduate degree in Journalism, English, Finance, or Business.

  • Minimum 3 years of journalism experience.

  • Able to meet tight deadlines.

  • Must be detail-oriented.

  • Must be comfortable working with computers and spreadsheets.

  • Must be available to travel.

Preferred Experience:

  • At least 3 years environmental and/or energy market pricing and reporting.

  • Experience in U.S .and international carbon markets and clean air initiatives.

  • Experience in environmental or energy market data analysis.

  • Experience in publishing daily reports.

  • Experience in news and content creation strategies.

The team is small and nimble, interacting with many other groups such as oil, natural gas/LNG and power as well as other divisions of S&P Global. The Impact: This position will have substantial responsibilities of research in elements affecting the coal market (supply, demand, trade, and price), the U.S. and international power market, and presenting results in written reports, webinars, and client-facing interactions. In addition, responsibilities include research into developments and growing coverage of carbon capture and storage (CCS) technologies. The position will also have business development and client retention responsibilities. Must effectively be able to present forecasts and supporting materials to clients in regular reports, phone calls, emails, and web/live conferences. * Innovative and strong problem-solving skills to streamline processes and identify and implement improvements * Strong attention to detail * Ability to assess impact of policy issues influencing coal markets * Bachelor's degree, preferably in economics, engineering, or a similar field, with experience in energy markets. * Expert in Microsoft Excel.
