Job Description

Performs clerical and intermediate technical work assisting with a variety of office and administrative tasks in the Marketing division of Parks, Recreation, Facilities and Tourism. Performs difficult technical work assisting with marketing initiatives, including creative, digital, social media, events, public relations and internal and external communications; does related work as required. Work is performed under general supervision and reports to Marketing Manager.

The hiring range for this position is $19.25/hour to $25.99/hour based on experience.

The full range of thid position is $19.25/hour to $32.73/hour to provide opportunity for growth and development.

Examples of Duties

Assist with digital and social media marketing projects and initiatives to ensure that all activities

align with the marketing communication plans and branding efforts.

  • Work with department managers to develop marketing strategies for programs and

  • events.

  • Develop and implement digital marketing strategies to include website, newsletters and

  • social media accounts.

  • Supports the Marketing Manager with content on website and social media platforms to

  • include, Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, Pinterest, LinkedIn, YouTube; also supports other

  • marketing and advertising efforts.

  • Create marketing flyers and graphics for programs and events.

  • Analyze data to determine campaign efficiency.

  • Develop an identifiable brand through maintaining county brand graphic standards for

  • all marketing collateral and assure consistent adherence to branding guidelines.

  • Creation of program/activity guides for printing and distributions.

  • Maintain and create community partnerships and participation in community events

  • within department and partners.

  • Coordinate in-person marketing opportunities.

  • Develop new marketing strategies.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Understanding of practices, techniques, and methods of planning and

  • implementing marketing and communication initiatives, and strategies;

  • General knowledge of the geographic layout of the County and surrounding

  • areas;

  • Skill in public speaking before groups of various sizes;

  • Skill in use of personal computers;

  • Ability to work independently;

  • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and writing;

  • Ability to understand detailed and complex policies and procedures;

  • Ability to plan, develop, implement, and evaluate advertising and marketing

  • strategies;

  • Ability to develop and write promotional copy, speeches, and correspondence;

  • Ability to research and interpret data;

  • Ability to prepare and maintain detailed records and reports;

  • Ability to process and utilize complex workplace data and graphics;

  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with general

  • public, co-workers, other departments, County officials, community leaders, local

  • groups, businesses, media, and agencies;

  • Ability to express ideas and present programs in an enthusiastic and dynamic

  • manner to a diverse public.

Education and Experience

Any combination of education and experience equivalent to graduation from high school, and 1 to 2 years of clerical and administrative experience. Marketing or graphic creation helpful. Associates Degree or higher is preferred.

Special Requirements

  • Possession of a driver's license valid in the Commonwealth of Virginia.

Physical Requirements/Work Environment

This is sedentary work but requires the exertion of up to 25 pounds of force regularly

and a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to move objects. Work requires

reaching, grasping, repetitive motions, and standing for several hours infrequently. Vocal

communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken

word. Hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels. Visual

acuity is required for preparing and analyzing written or computer data, operation of

machines, determining the accuracy and thoroughness of work, and observing general

surroundings and activities. Work requires driving to meeting locations within the region.

The worker is subject to inside and outside environmental conditions.
