Job Title Marketing & SEO Specialist Position Summary

The Marketing & SEO Specialist supports both the SEO strategy and website maintenance for the

University. Responsibilities include overseeing the University's content management system, including overseeing content contributors and website redesigns, designing and implementing email campaigns, and writing and distributing web and news content through various channels including newsletters and social media.

The Marketing & SEO Specialist supports a targeted web content strategy and helps produce contentaccordingly; ensures that all digital communication and marketing efforts are optimized for keyconversions and follow rules of grammar, visual design, and quality assurance. They provide analyticsand reporting on SEO initiatives and can show SEO improvement from strategic efforts.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Website Content Management System (CMS):

  • Is the on-staff CMS expert, responsible for training the campus community to use the system and post content.

  • Works with clients to determine their web needs.

  • Manages website redesigns that lead to a quality user experience with measured conversions.

  • Manages a team of website content approvers, doing quality assurance that content is reviewed and approved timely and without errors.

  • Supports the communications plan with creating and sending the university newsletter through CMS.

  • Ensures all content and design is on brand and in voice.

  • Assists in publishing emergency notifications and crisis communications content to the site.

SEO Strategy:

  • Develop and implement an SEO strategy with "white hat" techniques to gain visibility and rankings.

  • Maintain working knowledge of current trends in SEO, UI/UX, Google algorithm updates, etc.

  • Manage the tracking and reporting of all analytics related to content performance.

Copy Writer:

  • Supports creative copywriting efforts of the office including website content, commercials, email, direct mail, and digital marketing that focus on key conversions and enforce brand identity.

  • Monitors, edits, and corrects site content for customer communications within editorial style guidelines and follows rules of grammar.

Content Strategy:

  • Assists in the development of a comprehensive content strategy for the University's online presence, including best practices and standards for others in the University community to follow through the use of analytical and performance data.

  • Collaborate with communications and marketing team members to guide content that increases website and social media traffic to influence strategic traffic growth of the right target audience that helps departments achieve their goals.

  • Helps coordinate SEM and landing page strategies.

Email Campaigns:

  • Assist the Senior Marketing Manager in developing and implementing strategic email marketing campaigns in the Slate CRM, ensuring mobile-friendly templates.

  • Develop drip campaigns to populations and trigger campaigns based on customer website actions.

  • Analyze campaign performance and suggest improvements.

  • Understands the admission funnel of each program, including graduate and undergraduate programs, to optimize communication for the target audience.

Support Marketing & Communications Projects:

  • May be asked to support marketing and communications team projects such as website updates, creative brainstorms, survey creations, copywriting, etc. Performs other related duties and projects as assigned.

Education, Certifications and/or Licenses

Training and Experience

A Bachelor's degree from an accredited college with major coursework in marketing or a related field with at least 2 years of hands-on experience with HTML and content management systems.

Experience

  • Experience with website structures and content management systems (CMS)

  • Experience developing effective SEO strategies

  • Experience reporting SEO through Google Analytics and other reporting tools

  • Demonstrated understanding of user experience, search engine optimization (SEO), and search engine marketing (SEM).

  • Experience with copywriting for digital platforms and editing for grammar, spelling, and punctuation accuracy.

  • Written, verbal, analytical, and organizational skills.

  • Experience working with a CRM is strongly preferred.

  • Working under tight deadlines and bringing strong attention to detail.

  • Professional copy editing and proofreading.

  • Experience proofreading for website branding standards (fonts, spacing, padding. etc.).

  • Experience in managing a workload including multiple projects and production schedules required.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Understanding of SEO and SEM fundamentals.

  • Advanced copywriting.

  • Strong understanding of CMS, website technology, and email marketing platforms.

  • Strong understanding of CRM technology is preferred.

  • Knowledge of Associated Press (AP) style guidelines.

  • Knowledge and proficiency in coding standards-compliant, accessible HTML and CSS for web and email.

  • Knowledge of information architecture principles; understanding of the technical aspects of website production; and understanding of the tools provided by our CMS system and their limitations.
