Portal by Facebook is a new family of home video communication products, designed to help you connect with the most important people in your life and share those little everyday moments, regardless of physical distance.

The Portal team is seeking a Marketing Research Manager who will harness and translate insights into strategic marketing plans and communications and create strong cross-functional partnerships with the Portal marketing and products teams. This role will also help develop new hardware brands, improve product market fit, execute go-to-market plans, support creative development, optimize marketing to drive conversion of product funnel and ultimately create more value for consumers.

The ideal candidate will have exceptional research skills across both qualitative and quantitate methodologies, proven hands-on experience as practitioner and manager, a hunger to drive significant business impact/outcomes, and an interest to remain deeply engaged in the execution of work. Strong time management and communication skills are critical, and experience with technology is a must.

This role is based in Menlo Park, but travel may be required up to 20% of the time.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Partner with marketing, research/UX and product organizations to understand consumer needs and product use cases, define brand positioning, develop audiences, improve product market fit, execute go-to-market plans, and optimize/improve marketing communications to achieve business objectives

Design and execute comprehensive, best-in-class quantitative and qualitative research solutions, at both the product and brand level. Leadership in technique and methodology is essential

Define people problems to influence executional strategy, goals and metrics to ensure line-of-sight to success

Translate data insights into actions and recommendations. Core focus will be on marketing and communications strategy and plans, at both a brand and product level, but will also include new product development and definition

Partner with Decision Science to develop hypotheses and comprehensive test and measurement plans, to design and execute experiments to achieve marketing objectives and drive marketing effectiveness

Produce highly effective communication and provocation to influence decision-making and product planning

Ability to interface directly with leadership

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • 8+ years of experience in marketing research or product research teams

Knowledge of qualitative and quantitative methods

Proven experience in leading insights-driven campaigns/product launches from definition to execution, driving and influencing product and marketing decision-making

Experience engaging both at the technical/product level as well as on brand marketing/communications

Experience engaging in research work at a tactical/executional level as well as managing the growth and development of a team

Problem-solving and experience moving from blank state to well-defined problem with a methodology

Experience scaling and prioritizing activities

Communication and presentation experience with proven track record of using insights to influence executives and colleagues

Proven track record as a team manager, mentor, and/or building out a team of researchers

This role is responsible for identifying opportunities and needs for content/outreach planning, editorial development and execution of engagement plans, as well as community development, strategy and growth of social channels and the Facebook Research website. The position works closely with stakeholders across the research teams and the wider company to develop marketing strategies and programs that support marketing initiatives for Facebook research. The position will partner closely with the technology communications team and cross-functionally across research teams, recruiting, legal & policy, and marketing. Ideal candidates have a strong portfolio of communications in multiple formats (messaging, social media, email, published articles, speeches, wikis, executive communications, and story-telling). Success in this position requires an ability to excel at cross-team collaboration and an understanding of communication to the academic/research audience. The ideal candidate should be a strategic, creative, detail oriented multi-tasker who stays ahead of industry trends in research, to contribute to the visible success of Facebook research. They should have deep familiarity with academic and industrial research organizations, understand the academic mindset, calendar and communication preferences. They will be fully conversant with core academic communities: professors, academic researchers and graduate students and will have sensitivity to how best to message to a diverse research community in ways that best foster inclusivity within our messaging and in attracting talent. This person should be passionate about developing insight-led marketing programs that may include digital campaigns, large-scale events, partnerships, marketing collateral, case studies, webinars and engaging video content. RESPONSIBILITIES * Devise and execute major marketing communications strategies and programs that support Facebook research strategic objectives Build strong, positive working relationships across different cross-functional teams (research teams, recruiting, policy and legal, creative, communications and product marketing) to ensure timely and well-coordinated planning and deployment of campaigns and content Recommend and implement engagement tactics, including incorporating community into organization programming, employee advocacy, communications strategy, annual conferences, and events Manage the day-to-day messaging, monitoring and moderation of multiple properties Implement a coordinated and curated content editorial calendar that supports our communications needs across social media and website Identify and improve organizational and technological needs to create more efficient process and approach Track performance of campaigns and content across multiple communities Report and communicate key takeaways with Research Operations team members, management and stakeholders MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS * 5+ years experience in Marketing, Partnerships, Sales-Marketing or Communications Bachelor's degree in Marketing, Communications or related field Experience developing integrated marketing programs (i.e., campaigns, collateral, presentations, event content and digital content) to drive engagement, reach and growth Experience in both driving strategy and in campaign execution Experience in collaborating with a variety of partners Experience influencing and leading cross-functional teams Experience managing agencies and contractors, and putting in place scalable processes to drive and measure results PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS * Experience working in a startup environment or on a small and agile team within a larger organization Global experience Sees ambiguity as opportunity Self-driven, resourceful and motivated to work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment Facebook Menlo Park CA
