KWES-TV, NewsWest 9, a TEGNA station in Midland/Odessa, TX is looking for a production assistant who is ready for the challenge of a fast-paced show. The ideal candidate will be able to do multiple duties in the position. This person filling this role will be tasked with assisting production during live newscasts and other productions.

Responsibilities:

  • Ability to adapt and quickly change on the fly for breaking news and unexpected special events.

  • Experience with the operation and understanding of studio cameras, ,video routers, audio consoles, teleprompter, studio setup and tear down.

  • Also studio maintenance and organization.

  • Knowledge of ENPS a plus

  • Execute live productions across multiple platforms

  • Ability to work with a team of people to achieve clean newscasts

  • Have high attention to detail to find and correct problems before they hit the air

  • Must be able to work quickly and efficiently under pressure

  • Must have the ability to juggle multiple tasks at once

  • Ability to work with a flexible schedule is a must. May require mornings, nights, weekends and holidays

Requirements:

  • Must have a strong working knowledge of studio and location equipment including, but not limited to, studio lighting equipment, teleprompter, audio

  • Knowledge of ENPS is a big plus.

  • Excellent communication skills required, with an emphasis on working as a team with producers.

  • College degree preferred

  • Must be able to lift & position 40 pounds and work a flexible schedule including holidays and weekends

Travel: Rarely: less than 10%

Work you'll do As our Video Writer & Producer, you'll be a writer first, working alongside our Video Lead to turn challenging creative briefs into video content that actually says something. Preferred: * Video producer skills - creating budgets, booking crews, locations, travel, talent, etc. * Post-production experience - overseeing editors/MGFX artists * Video tech skills - camera, teleprompter, sound equipment operation. * Knowledge of the Adobe creative suite - possibly Premiere, After Effects, Illustrator, etc. * Attention to detail and good problem-solving skills * Cool under pressure.
