This position will provide project management, administrative and communications support for all the marketing efforts within the City of Jackson Transit Services Division-JTRAN. Performs marketing activities related to City transit system-JTRAN, assisting in the development and maintenance of transit programs, coordinating ridership and community outreach projects, and administering the website and social media. Perform activities related to creating marketing, customer and public information materials, conducting ridership, pass sales and other promotions; branding; supporting community partnerships and assisting with organizational participation in community events.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Assist with developing a Transit Marketing Plan, including the BE NICE Customer Service Program

  • Develop strategies to raise awareness and use of transit by key target audiences, including commuters, youth, elderly, individuals with disabilities and the public.

  • Prepares, coordinates and implements specific promotions and campaigns to raise awareness and use of transit and other transit services. Supports public involvement activities.

  • Monitors and reviews the impact of marketing activities and recommends changes as appropriate.

  • Creates a bus advertising program and facilitates sales to potential advertising customers.

  • Creates an annual passenger survey to solicit customer input on overall customer satisfaction and to gather ideas and suggestions for improvement.

  • Assist with preparing written communications that include press releases, event detour announcements, schedule changes, customer procedures, special promotions, etc.

  • Assist with updating and posting content on websites.

  • Assist with monitoring and posting content on social media.

  • Assist with posting content on digital monitors (external and internal).

  • Acts as JTRAN's graphic designer to develop and design external and internal marketing materials such as bus boards, vehicle graphics, flyers/posters, maps.

  • Assist with any marketing and advertising campaigns as needed.

  • Assist with staffing Outreach Events when needed and any other special events.

  • Assist other departments with communication, as needed.

  • Assists the Division with promotional events that may require working outside the normal 8am-5pm weekday work hours and possible weekend events as well.

  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor's or Associate's Degree in Marketing, Communications, Public Relations, Writing or related field preferred. Five plus years with a Bachelor's degree or three years experiences with an associate degree desired.

  • Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.

  • Positive attitude and strong work ethic are essential.

  • Ability to deal courteously and effectively with the public.

  • Computer skills including experience in Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign and Illustrator mostly), proficiency in MS Office Suite.

  • Experience with Social Media Platforms (Facebook, Twitter & LinkedIn)

  • Experience with video and photography a plus

  • Ability to be organized and work on multiple projects at the same time

  • Team player with excellent organizational skills and who is self-directed.

  • Ability to be flexible & juggle unplanned tasks needed done immediately

  • Ability to meet deadlines and have good time management skills

  • Ability to solve problems and deal with a variety of changing situations in a timely manner.
