Position Description

Seattle Center is recruiting for a dynamic marketing development professional with proven knowledge and experience to create, manage and execute traditional and digital marketing programs and strategies that meet organizational objectives, build brand awareness, drive event attendance, and build new business partnerships to extend reach and generate revenue.

This position is in the Marketing business unit, reports to the Seattle Center Marketing Manager, and works closely with the Seattle Center Division Director for Marketing & Strategic Partnerships.

As part of the Marketing team, this position will be responsible for establishing Seattle Center as a top tier destination for local residents, as well as tourists and regional, national and international visitors. The Marketing & Brand Development Specialist (Marketing Development Coordinator) will join a team that generates targeted advertising, marketing and communications campaigns and initiatives to promote a wide range of public, cultural, and commercial events including major concerts and festivals, family shows, arts performances, sporting events and other activities. Programs may be in support of Marion Oliver McCaw Hall, Climate Pledge Arena, other campus facilities, Seattle Center-produced programming such as Festál, Winter/Summer Fitness, Movies at the Mural and Winterfest, programming created by community and campus resident organizations, and initiatives in partnership with neighbor organizations such as the Uptown Arts and Cultural District, Visit Seattle, Downtown Activation Plan (DAP), and Downtown Seattle Association.

Additionally, as part of the Marketing team, this position partners with Seattle Center internal business units to provide overall coordination and account/project management to develop, implement and facilitate understanding and execution of a department-wide marketing vision, maximizing opportunities for cross-promotion and new revenue.

Marketing/Advertising Programs including MarCom Platform (eblast, website, digital signage, social): 

  • Create, manage, develop, execute, and track Seattle Center brand and marketing plans and programs across multiple platforms using assets that include traditional and digital advertising, social media, collateral, print and digital signage, and sponsorship activation.

  • Track and analyze marketing performance and effectiveness.

  • Share results with Seattle Center marketing and other business units and integrate findings into future activities and initiatives.

  • Proactively stay on top of digital marketing trends and news, to inform future growth strategies and opportunities.

Marketing Program Management and Execution

  • Define, gather, organize, and track content from multiple internal and external resources to create marketing assets, as well as tactics associated with specific marketing programs.

  • Organize content for creative execution, and route creative for review and internal/external approval.

  • Manage project budgets including funds from internal and external resources.

  • Coordinate, track and communicate status of project deliverables and deadlines.

  • Track and process project/program-related expenses.

Media Plans and Business Partnerships

  • Create media plans, and negotiate and place media buys for traditional and digital tactics, while also pursuing added-value opportunities.

  • Build and leverage existing relationships with media and local industry to extend marketing reach, establish trade opportunities and enhance efforts for mutual benefit.

Sponsorship

  • Partner with Sponsorship team to execute marketing deliverables for contracted partners.

  • Responsibilities may include ideation and strategy development/execution of marketing, advertising, and communications assets plus media plans to enhance sponsor exposure.

Event Marketing

  • Manage development, execution, communications, and coordination of marketing programs with cross-functional internal and external teams, contractors/consultants, external agencies, and outside business partners to drive event attendance and increase ancillary revenues.

Commercial Marketing

  • Partner with marquee commercial clients to drive traffic to new events, raise awareness to secure repeat business, and expand our portfolio of event offerings.

Relationship Management

  • Communicate marketing objectives, strategies and execution details to Seattle Center Executives and management, business units, cross-functional and external teams to ensure integration and support.

  • Develop and manage relationships with Seattle Center resident organizations, internal and external creative teams, business partners, agencies, vendors, and other resources to create and pursue opportunities for cross-promotions and new revenue.

Minimum Qualifications

Requires two years minimum experience in developing or implementing marketing plans and a baccalaureate degree in marketing, business administration (or a combination of education and/or training and/or experience which provides an equivalent background required to perform the work of the class).

Desired Knowledge, Skills, and Experience

You will be ready to take on this role with some combination of experience and skills as indicated below: 

  • 5-7 years of traditional and digital marketing and advertising experience

  • Tourism, hospitality, retail and/or event marketing experience

  • Skilled at creation of marketing programs, and with development, hands-on execution, and analysis of plans and their tactics

  • Experienced with creating media plans, as well as negotiation, placement and management of paid traditional, digital and social media buys and their budgets

  • Expert account, project, and budget management skills, multi-tasker,  detail-, deadline- and results-oriented

  • Able to leverage support and drive collaboration for marketing plans from diverse stakeholders including internal and cross-functional teams, contractors/consultants, community and resident partners, public- and private-sector organizations, and external agencies

  • Strategic, analytical thinker who executes methodically, and can pivot quickly in a dynamic, fast-paced work environment

  • Proficiency with online content, mobile marketing, and social media marketing and development strategies

Work Environment/Conditions

The work is performed in an office environment. Hybrid work arrangements will be considered, with some weekly on-site work required.Additional Information

This position is classified as a Marketing Development Coordinator.  

The full pay range for this step-progression position is $48.43- $56.39 per hour. New employees begin at Step 1 of the pay progression, which is $48.43 hourly. Current City employees' starting rate of pay will be based on Personnel Rules regarding promotions.
