Center Background

INTO Hofstra was formed through a partnership between Hofstra University and INTO University Partnerships. INTO Hofstra welcomes international students to programs that are aimed at helping them develop English-language competence and higher education academic success skills. It also provides international students with a pathway year of Hofstra University degree-program coursework that results in the students entering an undergraduate or graduate degree program.

Job Overview

The Marketing and Communications Specialist (MCS) for INTO Hofstra is our expert in-house marketer who will be responsible for producing all sorts of creative collateral from developing eye-catching print materials, to creating impactful videos, to being our "voice" on social media across multiple platforms to promote the university and drive student recruitment from around the world. The successful candidate will also help be the face of INTO Hofstra when it comes to making prospective students and families feel at home. They will plan unforgettable trips for educational counsellors and other key stakeholders when they come to experience Hofstra University and the greater New York metropolitan area for themselves. The MCS will get the opportunity to learn from and work with talented and passionate co-workers across multiple departments at the university and with staff around the world who are all invested in making Hofstra University a premier destination for prospective international students.

The key metrics of success for this role will be measured by meeting the deadlines and timelines of all marketing and promotional materials created to drive our brand and enrollments. Domestic and international travel may be required to meet the demands of this position and may include working outside normal operating hours.

Key Responsibilities

Marketing Content Development:

  • Exercise creative judgement in developing, organizing and managing print and digital content that promotes enrollment growth initiatives in Hofstra University and INTO Hofstra programs in collaboration with center recruitment staff. These materials include but are not limited to: brochures, flyers and other print collateral; video content, student testimonials; website content and social media posts, PowerPoint presentations and student pre-arrival communications.

  • Author and produce engaging, student facing content, including but not limited to: student, staff, faculty and alumni testimonials distributed through various marketing channels (e.g. print, social media).

  • Supervise, coordinate and conduct photo and video shoots on the university campus.

  • Conduct video interviews of students, faculty and alumni and produce high quality videos for B2C and B2B marketing purposes. Coordinate user generated video content of students for B2C marketing campaigns.

  • Serve as liaison between center leadership and other key university stakeholders for the INTO North America marketing team for the review and approval of all marketing and communications materials.

  • Work in partnership with the INTO North America marketing team on the production of the above-mentioned items.

Recruitment and Event Planning:

  • Represent Hofstra University/INTO Hofstra and present the programs, benefits and differentiators to agents, regional staff, government organizations, and others which may involve one-on-one meetings with prospective students, webinars, presentations, pre-departure training to admitted students, other impromptu meetings.

  • Serve as the lead events planner organizing various recruiting and marketing focused on-campus events that promote the university and INTO Hofstra programs. Supervise administrative staff in this capacity.

  • Management of logistics and activity for large scale familiarization trips (campus events promoting the university and INTO Hofstra to international audiences of recruiters and educational counselors).

  • Support conversion/yield strategy to maximize the enrollment of offer holders and confirmed students.

  • Select, produce, order, package, and ship merchandise and materials to appropriate locations in advance of recruitment activities.

Experience & Competencies

Essential:

  • Bachelor's degree in marketing, business, English, journalism, communications or related field.

  • Strong experience with professional marketing and communications.

  • Exceptional written and oral communications and research skills.

  • Experience using MS Office and Adobe Creative Suite.

  • Working knowledge of print design concepts, in particular InDesign.

  • Demonstrated ability with video production and photography.

  • Demonstrated ability to communicate complex and data-centric topics to international lay audiences.

  • Experience with event planning, from concept through completion.

  • Superior interpersonal skills and commitment to building relationships with students, peers, senior managers, university stakeholders and external vendors.

  • High level of sensitivity to cultural differences and awareness of global perspectives.

  • Passion for international education.

Desirable:

  • Experience studying abroad and/or working with international students.

  • Understanding of the creative development and production process.

  • Familiarity with website content management systems.

  • Experience managing projects, events and logistics.

  • Familiarity with email marketing.

  • Hands-on approach to customer service and business growth.

  • Experience working in higher education and/or with an international higher education partner.

  • Experience with recruitment, evaluation, and admissions operations.

  • Proficiency in a second language other than English.

Compensation & Benefits: Up to $67,400 (depending on experience).
