Description

Penn State Schuylkill is seeking a Director of Strategic Communications to aid in the recruitment of students and faculty, strengthen awareness and reputation of the campus, and enhance fundraising efforts. Reporting to the Chancellor, and leading a small team of creative communicators, the successful applicant will possess an understanding of communications, marketing, digital, social, and print media, and how to utilize them separately and in tandem in order to articulate the distinctiveness and appeal of our campus and obtain desired results.

Penn State Schuylkill is a four-year campus of the Pennsylvania State University with a mission to provide affordable high-quality education, research that improves lives, and community engagement. With just over 600 students, the campus offers the advantages of a small college; students build strong relationships with faculty and are involved in clubs, research, community service, and intercollegiate athletics. Typically requires a Bachelor's degree or higher plus five years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience for a level 3. Additional experience and/or education and competencies are required for higher level jobs. Additional experience preferred in higher education marketing or communications with particular skills in strategies, tactics, and metrics to reach target audiences, measure impact, and refine messaging.

This position will report to the Associate Vice President in News and Media Relations and will work closely with the Associate Vice President in Marketing and the Vice President for Strategic Communications. We are seeking an agile leader with direct and relevant PR and marketing experience who can effectively develop strategic plans and drive strong collaboration among social media, proactive media, internal communications, and marketing. It is critical that the successful candidate have the ability to work closely with a variety of stakeholders—including senior leaders across the University, communicators in other units, faculty, and our full unit to identify projects, initiatives, and storytelling opportunities that can and should be elevated with integrated communications plans. This individual will need to set goals and objectives, understand the complexity of a story, and work to drive plans that consider all elements of paid, earned, shared, and owned (PESO) channels. Responsibilities also include overseeing and driving projects and materials development, with a high-quality "soup-to-nuts" approach. Projects will at times involve working closely with lead communicators, so experience building relationships and working effectively with diverse stakeholders is key. This position will be part of the leadership team, and this individual will support the unit's overarching strategic communications plan that focuses on the University's mission and objectives, establish metrics, and assist the Associate Vice Presidents with reporting achievements on a regular basis.
