CLASS DESCRIPTION
The Baltimore City Department of Recreation and Parks is seeking a creative-minded communications student, or recent graduate, who is interested in advancing their skills through a marketing and communications division. The Marketing and Communications Assistant will gain practical, hands-on experience in graphic design, public relations, social media, video editing, writing, and editing. Your work will directly help enhance the agency's marketing and communications efforts. The hours are negotiable, but position will have a minimum 20 hours per week.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Assist with creating and curating engaging content for social media platforms.
Engage facility and park users to capture social media content.
Help with video storyboard creation and editing.
Organize photo/video storage database.
Create flyers and graphics.
Compile agency media clippings.
Assist with utilizing analytics to identify trends and consumer behavior.
Update and maintain media contact list.
Write articles, media advisories, and press releases.
Research and fact check information for articles, media advisories, and press releases.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
EDUCATION: Currently enrolled in, or recently graduated from, a related Bachelor's or master's program at an accredited college/university.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
Self-motivated with the ability to work independently.
High attention to detail
Deadline oriented
Strong writing and editing skills.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Efficiency in Microsoft Office
Solid understanding of and experience using various social media platforms and tools
Familiarity with Adobe Suite and Canva
Passion for the PR industry and its best practices
