In partnership with the Chapter Executive Director, Chapter staff, market volunteers and market stakeholders, the Market Director is responsible for strategic direction of the assigned market area including, but not limited to, achievement of annual net revenue goals; achievement of outcomes as outlined in strategic plan or annual operational plan; recruitment and successful management of staff and volunteers needed to achieve revenue goals and established outcomes.

This is a remote position based out of Raleigh, NC

Responsibilities:

  • Board Development: Manages, oversees and partners with the Triangle Market Board of Directors providing leadership and support in building and implementing annual plans and ensuring the on-going development of a strong, engaged and diverse Board. Provides leadership and support attracting and retaining high-impact volunteers. Keeps Board leadership current on all Breakthrough T1D communications, programs and internal dataset.

  • Management: Responsible for managing the Raleigh/Triangle Development Manager and Development Coordinator.

  • Revenue: Responsible for overseeing and hitting budget on all fundraising events in the Triangle market; as part of NC Chapter leadership, responsible for helping the NC chapter reach its overall annual budget; manages Market operating and event budgets to ensure responsible use of the organization's funds

  • Events: Responsible for strategy, recruitment, and stewardship of sponsorship for events including Triangle Gala and Triangle One Walk.

  • Data Management: Embraces the CRM system and utilizes the database for moves management with donors.

  • Leadership Giving: In partnership with the Chapter Executive Director and the Leadership Giving team, responsible for strategy, recruitment, and stewardship of individual giving in the Market, including major gifts toward Gala and other leadership gifts. Manages a portfolio of major donors within the Market - owns overall accountability for portfolio success.

  • Volunteer Leadership: Responsible for securing volunteer leadership (Event Chairs, Honorees, etc.) for large events and overall strategy to hit goal.

  • Active member of the Chapter's leadership team.

  • Identifies and develops new relationships with prospective donors and maintains strong relationships with existing donors.

  • Stewards and thanks donors.

  • Provides excellent client relationship management to all key stakeholders (volunteers, donors, sponsors, internal partners)

  • Serves as resource to whom donors look to for advice and partnership.

  • Is viewed as a trusted and reliable thought leader and partner to donors and the Chapter's Executive Director.

  • Understands Breakthrough T1D portfolio of gift opportunities and how these opportunities can be supported by donors.

  • Actively contributes to the management of the Chapter through building chapter capabilities, supporting management decisions, owning certain processes or special projects, and identifying potential talent (staff and volunteers)

  • Recruits and empowers high impact volunteers.

  • Represents the best interests, professionalism and integrity of the chapter and Breakthrough T1D in all activities and relationships through a unified message of the Breakthrough T1D mission and a commitment to organizational standards of excellence.

Qualifications:

  • Degree required. CFRE a plus

  • 7+ years of professional fundraising experience with a clear record of achievement in a complex, mission-driven organization; 3+ years in a supervisory capacity

  • Record of success in a fundraising leadership role, particularly in large scale events (walk, gala, etc.) and major gifts ($10,000+). Strong skills in the identification, cultivation, solicitation and on-going stewardship of individual donors and corporate partners.

  • Experience in partnering with strong and active volunteer leaders; able to work successfully with a large network of passionate volunteers.

  • High degree of energy, integrity, courage, empathy, and creativity; High emotional IQ; Superior active listening, analytical, and problem-solving skills.

  • Self-motivated and proactive; able to manage and oversee projects or assignments with minimal supervision.

  • Ability and willingness to help develop and work with a strong team of high performers; willingness to assist other team members with projects as needed.

  • Ability to inspire, lead and motivate a team; ability to develop and sustain an inclusive and respectful work environment through all interactions with staff and volunteers.

  • Ability to develop and successfully maintain an extensive network of strategic relationships (donors, volunteers, community partners, etc.) in the local area.

  • Ability to be a passionate spokesperson/representative of JDRF's mission; comfort communicating complex information (e.g. JDRF research, goals, etc.) - or a willingness to learn this information -- to a wide range of audiences.

  • Highly efficient in time management and can meet deadlines under pressure.

  • Ability to travel locally required. Occasional overnight travel as needed.

  • Proficiency in non-profit fiscal and strategic management preferred; ability to oversee event budgets.

  • Existing knowledge of and network of relationships in the territory.

The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, and infrequently up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this position include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, and the ability to adjust focus.

The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
