The Market Analyst, Renewables will provide fundamental commodity market analysis for renewable fuels such as ethanol, biodiesel and renewable diesel; as well as renewable feedstocks including agricultural commodities such as soybean oil, soybeans, soybean meal, corn oil, corn, canola oil, canola, etc. Other feedstocks market analysis may include low ci feedstocks such as tallow and other animal fats, greases and used cooking oil. Furthermore, support in analysis of federal, state and international credit markets and regulatory programs will be a component of the job. This position will support global trading and business development of renewables, feedstocks and agriculture markets. A key component will be consolidating business strategy and plans into concise, coherent means of communication. In addition, this position will interact with Value Chain Supply & Optimization, Emerging Energy, Refining, Marketing, Regulatory & Compliance, Risk, F&PA, the Chief Economists Office, Investor Relations, Commercial Senior Management and Executive Management.

Responsibilities May Include:

  • Developing a comprehensive understanding of commodity trading, including key supply/demand regions, logistics assets, storage facilities, and financial instruments used in these markets.

  • An understanding of key trading and development strategies is crucial for success.

  • Communicating market fundamentals, trading strategies and other renewables information to Commercial leadership.

  • Assisting in the evolution of a market plan that defines a profitable business model for new commodities in line with Commercial's overall trading strategy.

  • Understanding key trading positions of commodity trading to ensure all aspects of a trading position are understood.

  • Development and maintenance of supply and demand models. This will involve working closely with trading to understand the market and trends, incorporate downtime, seasonal cycles, macroeconomic variables and utilize import/export data to ensure the models are accurate and accepted by trading. Identify market anomalies and communicate to trading on what physical market and forward market changes might occur.

  • Providing market analytical support for Commercial by using supply and demand modeling and macro-economic data to develop a trading view of the market.

  • Work with third party consultants and brokers to understand and evaluate their views on renewables markets and factor those into development and trading approaches

  • Communicating external business intelligence and study results to assist traders and originators with successful implementation of tactics.

  • Understanding and communicating geopolitical and regulatory events/factors which impact price movements.

  • Leading information gathering process and development of presentation packages as needed.

  • Sharing knowledge freely and improving peer group understanding of own niche markets.

  • Leading ad-hoc projects and analysis around market fundamentals (including infrastructure changes) to support trade ideas.

Required Qualifications:

  • Legally authorized to work in the job posting country.

  • Bachelor's degree.

  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.

  • 2 or more years' experience in the energy, agriculture or renewables industries.

  • 2 or more years' experience related to commodity markets.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering, finance, economics, or related to agriculture.

  • 4 or more years' experience in the energy, agriculture or renewables industries.

  • 2 or more years' experience in both agriculture and renewable fuels.

  • 2 or more years' experience in a trading environment.

  • 1 or more years' experience with market analysis.

  • Some experience with business development projects.

  • Familiarity with environmental regulatory programs.

  • Knowledge of Commercial trading businesses.

  • Knowledge of global commodity trading.

  • Refining/petrochemical knowledge.

  • High degree of collaborative skills.

  • Ability to develop, lead and actively participate on cross functional teams.

  • Strong willingness and ability to support internal customers in business requirements.

  • High degree of initiative, works proactively to anticipate needs.

  • Excellent written and oral communication, inter-personal and presentation skills.

  • High degree of collaborative skills; ability to develop, lead and actively participate on teams.

  • Ability to manage conflict, influence others and persuade/facilitate resolution.

  • Proficiency with statistical modeling software, database software, and economic modeling.

  • Ability to code in Visual Basic.

  • Proficient in SQL, Tableau, Python, and/or R.

  • Strong analytical, problem solving, and organizational skills.

  • Strong ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.

  • Capable of gaining consensus and trust across multiple functional areas within and external to Commercial to build a common vision and direction.

  • Ability to adapt to quickly evolving requirements.

  • Ability to synthesize data into useful information and clearly articulate it.

  • Proactive in problem identification and resolution providing creative solutions to complex issues.

  • Strong ethics, personal drive and dedication to achieve team and general interest.
