Position Description:

The Marine Claims Administrator processes liability and marine claims, including liaison with clubs and insurers while working closely with Commercial, Operations, and Accounting teams.

Job Responsibilities:

• Is familiar with the Health, Safety, Environmental Protection and Quality Policy (PL-005), and understands the responsibilities under the Environmental Management System (EMS). In keeping with this and other compliance policies, they understand their duty to report any environmental noncompliance and/or concern to their manager or members of the senior management team (including the highest level of management) either directly or through the open reporting system as per Management System guidelines

• Analyzes, investigates, and evaluates losses to determine coverage and claim disposition

• Executes independent correspondence and prepares letters

• Prepares and maintains Key Performance Indicator (KPI) data for various vessel performance indexes

• Documents claims and plans for future events or follow-up

• Conducts own filing and claims document control

• Administers claims status valuations

• Prepares statistical and other reports as required

• Identifies and communicates specific claim trends and account and/or policy issues to management

• Assists with the claims settlement process, liability issues, and heads of claim

• Participates in claims audit process

• Performs other duties as required

Requirements:

• Minimum five years of relevant experience for the specific roles in the insurance industry or experience as a senior officer on board (internationally trading, handy-max or larger vessel)

• Able to work under pressure in a fast-paced environment

• Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite (including Outlook, Word, PowerPoint and Excel)

• Knowledge in loss data analysis and interpretation

• Strong verbal and written communication skills, and good writing style

Additional Desired Qualifications:

• Relevant experience for the specific roles through the insurance industry or experience on board vessel (internationally trading, handy-max or larger vessel).

• Understanding and experience with ISO management systems and vessel management

• Ability to meet deadlines

Job Demands and/or Physical Requirements:

• Periodic overtime to meet deadlines or accommodate time zone differences

• Availability via mobile device outside of office hours

Compensation and Benefits package:

Seaspan's total compensation is based on our pay-for-performance philosophy that rewards team members who deliver on and demonstrate our high-performance culture. The hiring range for this position is $63,400 - $76,100 CAD per annum. The exact base salary offered will be commensurate with the incumbent's experience, job-related skills and knowledge, and internal pay equity. In addition to base salary, we offer a competitive total rewards package which includes an annual performance-based bonus, a comprehensive benefits package (extended health, dental, life and disability insurance), retirement savings plan matching and other company-provided rewards.
